I've just bought both a C310 and a C320. Delighted with both :D except...the more expensive C320 doesn't have the UK post code search facility that the C310 has even though they both run software vesion 4.80. Anybody any ideas why this is? More money, less features? Seems illogical. 8O

| The more money is because the c320 comes with maps for the whole of Europe (on CD) abd the c310 is UK and NI only. Garmin are promising to release an update soon to allow post code search on the c320. |

Does seem rather odd that a 'lower spec' model should come with more practical features, especially since they both run on the same software???! Odd. Lets hope Garmin do produce the postcode search facility for the c320 soon, as I think this is the main factor that lets it down, otherwise I think it's a cracking bit of kit  |

I think the postcodes are a function of the maps loaded rather than the software installed. What map versions are on the 310/320?

I have city select europe v7 (UK and Ireland pre-installed, as comes straight out of the box). Firmware v4.80. I presume the c310 has city select europe v7 pre-installed (UK & Ireland) just without the cd-rom of the rest of europe!

Wrote to Garmin Tech Support...here's their reply:
There is a postcode coming out soon for the C320, you will need to get the update maps version 8 when come out and the latest software then it will give you postcode on the C320

There's been a lot of speculation in these pages about Garmin map updates. If I remember rightly I got the impression that Garmin offer one free update after you've purchased and registered. :D I'll stand correcting though.  Certainly, when I purchased a Quest with v6, Garmin sent me v7 FOC when I requested it. :D Though whether that's policy I really couldn't say. Maybe they just think I'm an awkward so-and-so and need to be kept quiet. 8O

Skippy - they're both on v7 maps, 4.80 OS. But see the comments from Garmin above...Still doesn't explain why one does and one doesn't though. 8O

| I have a Garmin iQue M5 and a C310 both running V7. I am sure that it is a combination of the operating software and the map database software. V7 has been out for a year now and at the time Garmin had not really investigated Post Codes fully. I actually believe that there are 2 versions of V7 Data, one with post codes and one without, however you need the correct software to be able to use post codes as well as teh correct data. |
