Wired up the antenna today and managed to get the cable out of site.
While doing this I was thinking of putting an extra socket out of site under the centre console to hide the power cable .
Is it OK to leave it on for long periods of time, ie all day.
The power in my Pug is switched off with the ignition .
Might wire in an on off switch for when I not using the car.
Can be a pain when you stop for fuel and lose the signal and have to reprogramme your destination.
I know batteries would help but it seems to eat them.

You need to use rechargable batteries, they will last for about 6 hours.

If you keep batteries in the i3 (but use the car power all the time driving) you should not need to re-enter your destination and it will hold sat almanac data to quicky restart, in fact when the i3 looses it external power and batts are in the unit asks you to press the scroll wheel to keep it on anyway.

what I was wanting to know was are all cars wired up the same with the lighter switching off with the ignition.
If not dose anyone leave the i3 on all the time with no ill effect.
As I said I would like to wire it always on and do away with the need for the battries.

Hmmmmmm, would that not drain your car's battery down leaving the appliance on all the time ??

Some do some don't (mine for instance has a permanent live one in the boot) The current drawn will be low so would take a while to flatten but you wouldn't leave it in the car for a long time as it might get nicked Wink Alternatively a remote antenna would allow it to be mounted less in view and in a better place?
