Walking mode on i3?

Can the i3 be used to navigate using footpaths? I know it is intended to use streets but if I set my detination and then walked across fields, rather than drive the suggested route, would it keep a compass direction pointing towards my final destination?

I think prob the best you could achieve is to zoom out and follow by compass point.......It does show you on map if you are in middle of a field etc, but does not offer a route......so beware of cliffs if going "the way the crow flies" 8O

I took mine over the local park when I first got it. It shows your direction and movement, and if you turn around it moves with you. Plus it'll show you all the nearby roads.

One difficulty I found was getting poor satellite reception when walking on pavements (I assume because buildings were blocking the sats?) though this may just be because this was when I just got it and it hadn't got a decent satellite fix (as some i3's seem to need) at that stage.

Main problem is it's not a very convenient shape to hold/carry.
