I'm a realtively new (2 weeks) i3 users and was wondering if there was any disadvantage in selecting WAAS / EGNOS (rather than plain GPS)? I have tried both modes here in Dorset and they seem to work fine (although I can't say I have notied any increase in accuracy). If the i3 can't pick up EGNOS does it automatically default back to conventional GPS?

As far as I am aware Waas/egnos is as yet not live in Europe? So I suspect there is little point to having it enabled at the current time.

I have read elsewhere that having it enabled can cause inaccuracies, although I used my garmin geko for some time with it enabled and never noticed any degradation in accuracy.

How ever in the interests of not getting sued for miss advise I would suggest that until Waas / Egnos goes live in Europe/UK then it is probably advisable not to enable the feature and think of it as a future proofing feature.

Welcome to the forum ,I don't know much about the i3 but there seems to be no advantages to enabling WAAS/EGNOS on any sat nav unit for vehicle navigation ,one thing you will notice is the reduction in battery life if you don't have it plugged in to the car battery.

waas or here in europe , egnos , does allow you to get a more accurate location on your gps...waas cannot be received here in europe but egnos can...at the moment egnos is still in its testing stage although on numerous occasions i have caught the signal on a garmin 60c i used to have..for geocaching and the such its a great advantage as you can get right down to 6 feet accuracy but for motoring (30 foot accuracy) there is not much help .....one disadvantage of waas/egnos is that the gps has to work harder to get the extra satellite signal and this can sometimes slow the gps down...i would leave the setting to normal until egnos is up and fully running..

Thanks for the replies guys. Seems sensible. I'll leave EGNOS off for the time being then Smile

Can vouch for the battery drain. I have 2000mAh NiMh batts and they were guzzled today and don't know why... now I do. Thanks for the EGNOS info, will be set to off UFN.
