Hi Guys

I'm an eager beaver and want to use my StreetPiloti3 now! I have read through the "Set up and go!" instructions that came with the Garmin. Planned my route selected Start Navigating and it says its locating satellites and I get no further Question

Firstly apologies for being so dim, i'm usually pretty good with technology. Do I have to install any software ie. the USB drivers on the supplied CDROM before I do anything?

I will read the guide for dummies, boy do I need to.

Go easy with me please Confused

Minx

locating satellites right at first startup does take a while sometimes..the i3 needs to load an almanac which contains your location etc..

depends which way the window is facing and where the sats are...stick the i3 in the middle of the garden with no obstructions near it ..it will soon pick up the sats..

are you indoors? if so then stand outside and wait about 15 minutes - it should pick up the satelites then. on first use it takes a while, but if you use it quite regularly the unit 'remembers' where the satelites last were and can find them quicker - this i the 'almanac' that zogman mentioned

You aren't much help sometimes, zogman. Rolling Eyes

The sticky says:

22) Place I3 in car, switch it on, choose your destination & drive away.

which is the step that Minx would have gotten to. Confused

Minx, if the GPS doesn't get a fix after 2 or 3 minutes then it may have never had a fix and it will take from 5 to 30 minutes to get a fix. Take it to a place with a good view of the sky and don't move it while it downloads the data.

Once it has had a first fix, it should lock on within a minute or two from cold (off for more than 8 hours) or in 10 to 30 seconds from hot (off for less than 8 hours).

Whey hey it works! Took it for a trial run, doesn't seem sure of a mile... 6 miles aka 1 mile? And has yet to find the speed camera's. Hopefully resolved with a little tweaking.

But thanks so much I just love my ickle StreetPilot! :P
