POI loader - alert settings query

I don't understand the alert settings when uploading POIs.

I am given the choice between:
1) when speed is greater than alert speed.
2) when I am x feet from the point.

But if I choose 1), then what is the distance at which it will warn me? I've also noticed with some settings, the mobile speed cameras only bleep once, whereas the fixed ones bleep like crazy.
