Poi Uploader problem

I have tried to faithfully follow the FAQ and have installed the latest softqware 2.6, the webupdater and the current POI uploader. the first installs seemed to work fine. However having downloaded some of the POI files as instructed, i tried to load the POIs; the uploader does not start when the I3 is connected with a USB cable. I have tried starting the uploader manually, but there is no apparent response on screen- no egg timer, no screen and nothing that I can see to show it is working.
This is frustrating- any suggestions? I looked on the Garmin site for faqs too and they are very limited.

When you say uploader, do you mean the poi loader as this is whats required to download the poi's.It also installs a small program called Garmin gstart which when you connect your i3 to your computer, it will find it ok.Have you read the sticky thread called Garmin Streetpilot I3 for dummies, I think this should help if you follow the step by step instructions.
