Having read that some people have had lock-ups with 2.60, and also read that 2.50 seems pretty rock steady, with no complaints, is the general consensus that 2.50 is the firmware of choice at present? |

no need to go to v2.6 as its only benificial to our foreign friends and i find v2.5 more stable...
''Changes made from version 2.50 to 2.60:
* Correct long route calculation time in Denmark.
* Updated text translations for Italian, French, Norwegian, and Hungarian.'' _________________ *************************** |

Well I had already read the change log, and I'd also read comments from somebody who'd spoke to Garmin support, who mentioned that there were likely minor enhancements that don't get put in the change log.
I guess where I'm coming from is trying to establish if anybody with 2.50 has had *any* issues (stability being the most important) and conversely, how many 2.60 users had experienced issues.
At present, my gut feeling is 2.50 as stability matters - especially in such standalone products. I just wanted to get something of an accurate picture regarding which version most people had been happy with. |

understood....but the firmware is soooo easy to install you can try both and decide for yourself...(version 2.7 will probably be out soon and that'll be a a brand new discussion) _________________ *************************** |

I get it's easy to install - and as a techie by profession, am well used to gadgets with moving feasts regarding firmware.
However, with standalone devices, I'm more interested in stability and useability, before enhanced functionality.
I have no qualms about patching my own firmware for one of my DVD writers in my PC, but standalone devices that I simply want to use and rely on, I'm less inclined to play around with experimental firmware, or worry about the "always-use-the-latest-firmware" ethos that normally goes with computing devices, and hackable entertainment devices. |

Lester,
Had my i3 for around a month or so with frequent use and v2.50 is working perfect as regards its stability.
Had a few minor hickups with unit other than stability but this has been down to user operation i.e getting to know the device and how it works. |

I run version 2.5 as I did not see need to upgrade t 2.6.
No lock ups and aquires sats easily. Original ver I think was 2.00 but this locked up (having said that it was only 1st day and on way home from shop, then I upgraded)
I think the general consensus is to go with v2.50. |
