I just got on board with NAV5 a few weeks ago and in general I'm very happy, probably due to realistic expectation about what a GPS solution can truly offer.

My only major disappointment is with the system's sluggish performance while downloading traffic updates. The onscreen image will freeze for up to a minute at a time, the voice prompts may or may not work, etc. Because this has caused me to miss critical turns, I have disabled automatic update and just download manually when I'm on a long stretch of highway.

I'm based in California, but because I travel a fair amount for work, I was originally working off the Western U.S. map set, but I recently switched to just Southern California, hoping for a much faster traffic download time, but it still seems to take a good five minutes or longer.

I'm on a 3G wirless network, and downloads are normally blazing. Has anyone else encountered these issues and can offer any suggestions?

Thanks ...

I can't really offer any words of hope, but I can say that it doesn't exhibit this behaviour on my setup (Toshiba E800 with BlueTooth SD Card to GPRS Connection via Nokia 6230i).

Cheers,

Steve.

Mine was sluggish during downloads until I replaced the memory card. I had a Sandisk, which are usually ok but I think there was a problem with this one. I replaced it with a Kingston 512Mb and its perfect now.
It used to take ages on address search too but that's sorted now :D

Thanks for the various feedback. On my end, I tried overclocking my PPC using XPCUScalar, but with no success.

Tonight I'm going to try re-formatting/defragging my SD card & I'll report back on any improvements tomorrow. If I'm still getting traffic drag , I'll probably bite the bullet and upgrade to either the Ultra SanDisk 2GB Ultra II SD or the Ritek 150x High Speed 2GB SD.
