Have purchased one of these new TomTom One units from Argos for £223. Great service so far as it arrived two days after placing the order. Will have to wait and see how the wife gets on with the unit xmas and see if she can still use the excuse of not knowing the route...

Will post an entry once it has had some use. So that I can compare against my iPaq 3970 and BT receiver

Once set-up (that's the hard part, due to the amount of options) it's easy to use. Let us know how U get on

:P Happy Xmas one and all!! Got my ONE yesterday and have just installed the camera database which seems to be fine, pity the POI TT5 is not compatible, unless you know different Question

Got it for 224 and 6 months Interest Free Credit at Halfords as they price matched Argos, they could not get through to Carphone warehouse who were doing it for 222.

I managed to get a refund on the Road Angel Navigator bought for £500 last Month. It was awful and they had to admit it was not ready for launch! It froze, took 15 minutes to locate satellites beeped for cameras when stationary, had a bright blue charge light which at night was unbearable, 2 volume controls, Why? and to cap it all needed to be switched on and off by a small recessed switch in its base so it could not be left in the cradle at the end of the day, in the garage of course!

8O Put on the voices for the Cameras next and then the SD card died!!! It is not recognised on any reader as existing. I think its a faulty one and I will be onto Tom Tom as soon as they open, I have used my back up copy onto a new SD card and loaded all the other things and it works fine. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi Diggerdog,

Welcome to the forum! Thumbs Up

The TomTom One can use all TTNav5 POIs. Or were you referring to the POI Capture utility?

Regards,

The link or PC world (with case) are the best prices, but I have no doubt that you will see it for £219 again before long - probably a matter of days

Having gone to Argos with some xmas money also saw that they had gone back up. Ordered from the link who apparently have stock for £229 free delivery - no idea what the service is like. Need mine by the end of the week as Im going away but personally I would wait a week or two to see if they are going to come down.

Having looked at the speed camera database do I have this right that I can download the locations and the one will tell me when I approach but I just cant update it on the poi screen ? sorry if this is obvious I am new to all this.

Ordered min from The Link a couple of weeks ago, got it for £219 (less 5% with one of those useful discount codes ;)). It came last Tuesday, two days earlier than specified.

Yes, you can download various POI files for the speed cameras (either all lumped together or split out into the various camera types or further split out into speeds too). For example, I have the speed-zoned Gatso and mobile files but opted for the all-in-one SPECS, redlight and temp versions, to leave some spare POI slots for other uses.
Be quick because PGW are soon intending to start charging for this free data.

You can then set the One to warn you as you approach either just visually or with a sound or with a voice alert (if you download a new data.chk file - do a search of the forum for a 'how to').
YOU have to tell the One how far away you want the warning to come, for EACH camera type.

Not quite sure what you're asking here, but yes you can add or change any camera details you like, the camera files are just like any other POI file. In the preferences menu, you can add or delete POIs (unfortunately, you can't edit them - if you want to change the name or details you have to add a new one in the same place and then delete the old one.

If that wasn't what you meant, sorry, ask again!

:D Hi Privateer Yes I did mean the POI Capture utility, any chance one will be developed? I have loaded the camera database and Voices but could I suggest they reserve one with a ping for other POI which might be needed, ie if you are on an unknown road and want to locate a petrol station, at the moment I would have it set to ''Supplied by GPS.com'' Other than the SD card failing its perfect. I finally got through to Tom Tom, there server has been faulty and I had to call abroad to get the UK phone number! Explained it had failed and no I had not installed anything on it :P They will have UPS collect and return a ''repaired SD card'' Heres hoping and then I will be left with a 512mb card, as they would not give me another countries map, well you have to try, with no real use for except downloaded maps in the future.

Well xmas has come and gone and the wife has unwrapped her new toy. as promised have used it a couple of times. Could not believe how easy it was to setup and had it up and running in less than half a minute or so.
Pros
1) Very fast cold or warm find on the satelittes. Cold appears to around 35/40 secs
2) Very smooth scrolling for the on screen graphics
3) Screen is very bright and responsive
4) Very portable
5) PostCode search is great and very easy. Pinpoint
6) Have loaded the camera database, very easy and very useful
Cons
1) Not really a con but would be nice if the screen was a little larger. My PDA with TomTom shows much more of the maps.
2) The SD card is very small at 128Mb. Does anyone know if I can copy everything onto a larger SD card and just reactivate?
Setup
Lots of options to play with if you are that way inclined.
Have set the volume to 80% and that appears to be pretty loud. The suction mount appears very sturdy, although will replace that with a Brodit Proclip system.
So far I would easily recommend this for anyone and at this price.

Baggaa - glad you're enjoying your wife's new toy Wink Smile As for the SD card - yes, you can just copy the contents to a larger card and put it in the TT - should work straight away.

Happy New Year Smile

Ordered mine on Tuesday from the link.
i really hope I get it before the weekend as I have a long journey but they say I should get it next Tuesday!

All prices seem to have risen back up exept The Links internet price. However, the Link say they take a whole week to ship it to you.
