As long as it’s safe for the driver (or better still a passenger), in ideal conditions the camera should be added where the actual camera is physically located, i.e. as you pass it. This will give you a warning right up to the camera and once you’re past the camera the warning should stop, unless of course there’s another known camera in the vicinity.

If at all possible, we’d like to have the camera locations as accurate as possible. As Andy_P2002 said it’s best to place them in the carriageway (on the correct side of a dual carriageway or motorway). If you have a lot of camera near where you live then please record them as accurately as you can, and then send them in!

Errr...No!
What I meant is that I've no idea how other systems deal with the problems of "Warn only when on Route" and the exact position of cameras etc on the map.
Lots of times I've found cameras in places where the Go doesn't trigger the alert. Some reasons are
1) because the camera is near a slip road and the Go thinks it is on THAT road not the main carriageway
2) a red light camera is placed on a complicated junction and the Go thinks it is on the side turning.
3) A reversable camera is mounted on the central reservation of a dual carrageway but is shown only on one carriageway
Other units may be better or worse at coping with these situations. All I know is that if I find a "funny" like the above, I experiment (using "route demo") to find where the position needs to be changed to and send it in as a correction with a note along the lines of "only a little positional change, but the Go is happier with it here".

Sounds like you are running your TomTom GO with the "Warn only if POI is on route" box checked for all of the camera database POI categories. If you use the TomTom GO Proximity Alerts, then we recommend that you uncheck the "Warn only if POI is on route" box:

Are there many reversible cameras mounted in the central reservation of a dual carriageway in the whole of the country? I’ve only ever seen two, which are both on the A338 heading into/away from Bournemouth. I haven’t driven on all of the country’s road so there may be more. I think in these circumstances it might be best to record two cameras, one on each side of the dual carriageway at the position of the reversible camera.

Yes I do have them checked. I've tried both ways, and there are advantages and disadvantages to both.
What we really need (and I've suggested to TomTom (ever hopeful!)) is another option: "Warn only when on route unless no route is set, in which case warn anyway". That's not a perfect solution, but I'd have thought would be very easy to implement.

Quite a lot around my way. Most of them sit pointing in the same direction for ages, but catch loads of regular commuters when they DO get turned round. What I've never seen, but apparently exists, is a double sided Gatso!

That's good to know! In fact I'd sent one in just like that last month, 'cos I thought it was the best solution, but I forgot where it was before I could check if it had been put in!

There always used to be double-sided GATSOs on the A338 in Bournemouth. I haven’t been down there for a while. If you have a look on the UKSpeedtraps website you’ll see them. Here’s the direct link for further information. Some web sites have reported that these units can have two cameras in them, it is impossible to do this due to space.

Ahh, that's what you were talking about earlier, Privateer.
What we have around here is a lot of standard Gatsos, either on the central reservation, or sometimes just on a bollarded refuge on a single carriageway. Dotted paint markers in both directions, and a sneaky crew who turn it round in the dead of night
I'm pretty sure they can do it with the red light cams too.

quite chuffed added my first cameras today emailed them of, and deleted of my tomtom the old ones, so i got ones in the right position now,
i am guessing keep them in my cameras till the update at the end of the month, delete from my cameras and install the new speed camera files form here,

Well actually I'd install the new version, check that your new ones have been included, THEN delete them from "my cameras". :D
(Come to think of it, when you check to see if they've been included, because the icons will be right on top of eachother, sometimes you have to juggle switching the views on and off to see them all)

That's why it MIGHT not have been added. Imagine all the emails arriving on Richard's desk, some listing the same camera in several slightly different places, some saying temporary cameras have gone or become permanent, some just moving a camera to the other carriageway. Sounds quite a headache to me! There was one time when I reported a camera one month, it was included the next month, but then it vanished again the following month. Turned out someone else had sworn blind there wasn't a camera there!
I stopped and took a photograph of the camera in the end (how's that for role reversal!) just to prove it was still there
