Hui,

I've been searching for the friction mount for my dashboard but can't find any UK suppliers - I e-mailed Garmin and they suggested some possible suppliers - but they haven't got them. I can see it on various US sites but postage to UK is ridiculous at $75+.

Anyway, I think I have seen the suction mount that you want :-

www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk/garmin-vehicle-suction-mount1-description.html

and I have already bought this car lead :-

www.mobilefun.co.uk/product/4668.htm

- which works perfectly.

Hope this is of some use, and if anyone knows where I can buy the friction mount (part No. 010-10675-00) then please let me know.

Hi Chic,

Thanks for the offer but no, I don't mean the adhesive disc that came with the i3 (I haven't used mine either as I don't want 'permanent adhesion' to my dash).

The bracket I have been looking for can be seen here :-

http://store.wmjmarine.com/c17099.html

I have a people carrier with a very deep, flat dashboard. The dashboard isn't smooth enough for the suction mount and, as I said above, I don't want to ruin the dashboard with the adhesive pad. I'm currently using the window mount on the small window beside the drivers side mirror but it's not ideal for using the car power lead. I'd use the above bracket positioned centrally on the dash where I could either just use the car lead, or be able to hard wire the i3 more easily. I'm still undecided whether I'll do the hardwiring or not though as I'm due to change the car shortly.

Thanks again for the kind offer though,

Rjabse

Shame we cant get a case - strange really, as on the base of the box, it lists optional accessories, and one of them is a case!

I got mine here :-

http://www.expansys.com/product.asp?code=010-10231-01

Not sure if it's the same as the one on Garmin's site but looks very similar.

I ordered it at the same time as my i3 (though i3 came from Maplin) and the case arrived first - forgot I had it until now Embarassed so haven't tried putting the i3 in it yet.

I bought one of these cases on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Garmin-StPilot-III-2610-Quest-Neoprene-Carrying-Case_W0QQitemZ5815907779QQcategoryZ4668QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I thought it was better quality that the "offical" garmin one, and I was right when it arrived! They are quite big though (comparatively), even the small one that Garmin make - they are both (Garmin & Gilsson cases) around 6.5" x 4.5" x 4.5". Even if you're carrying the unit, suction mount and cables, there's stll room to spare.

Same here, from ASDA. i3 fits perfectly and case fits in pocket. You could drop the case from 6 feet and the i3 would not be damaged. I think camera cases are worth a thought.

Does it step down to the correct voltage, which I understand to be 5v.

Yes it does - it works perfectly.

Differences from supplied cable are :-
a) It's got a curly (telephone handset type) cord and,
b) It's got a straight mini-usb plug (instead of angled)
