I was rather surprised by The Guardian's review on the latest GPS yesterday,i e 29th September. The article does not even mention the TomTom,let alone the latest TomTom GO which is perhaps the best automotive GPS by far.I have used Garmin's flagship Streetpilot III before and I could confidently say that the TTG is far superior to the Garmin.I have no affiliations with the tomtom.

I am sure that is the case but they should have at least mentioned the name, if not as a winner!

I don't seriously think they were actually paid not to mention TT, but that does tell you a lot about the so-called reviewer.

Nor do I, especially given this quote.

Quote:
This admittedly bulky box is in the same sector of the market as the better-known Navman and TomTom brands, but is approximately half the price.

Come on people. I know these are disappointing times to own a TomTom (I own a TomTom 300) but let's admit that compared to other units on the market and taking into account its high price, TomTom is completely RUBBISH and really didn't deserve to be mentioned on the review. That't my opinion though and others may think differently.

Compared to which other units?

Why is it disappointing to own a TT GO these days? Would you care to elaborate?

BTW, is the author the same Guy Clapperton who is "..one of six contributors to 'Six Weeks to Marketing Excellence' .. which has sections on planning, viral marketing, building a brand, direct marketing and consumer behaviour as well as publicity.."? Scary, but explains a lot about the article.

Also love the mention of indaGO - available to pre-order at £600. Nice bit of marketing, Guy. No mention of the fact that before the days of TTGO you could only buy a Garmin StreetPilot for about £800.

And is the StreetPilot to which he is referring (for £199) the 3i?

Because you pay a relatively high price for a unit that is full of glitches and mapping errors and with a non-existant customer support. For the same money I would personally go for a Garmin or a Navman without a second thought.

Each to their own. I have all three and the GO is still the better device. No glitches, mapping errors yes but then my Garmin with Navteq mapping has as many map errors.

Relative to what?

Can we have the full list of the aforesaid glitches?

used both Navman and TA maps with TT - wouldn't say I prefer one over another, both providers have errors

Patently untrue, have a look at mytomtomgo forums, there are people there who have never had any problems with customer support Although TT customer support is not excellent, it is certainly not non-existant.

OK, I'll pay you £199 for your GO300 and you can have a brand new "Garmin Streetpilot (£199 from PC World)". Do we have a deal?
