I am a TomTom 5 user and I have a Motor Caravan. To be honest TT isn't very good with routing for large vehicles and , along with many others, I am looking for an alternative which provides more sensible routing for such vehicles.

I am told that the I3 and perhaps all the Garmin models include a 'Truck' option which, on the face of it, seems to offer some hope but, I am also warned that maybe all that this does is to modify the anticipated ETA at a destination which isn't really what I need.

Can anyone give me an authorative answer please? Does selecting the Truck option generate a different route to that which is computed if Car is selected?

Alix - we have had this debate elsewhere and I have tried TT 'Limited speed' but I don't find that it does what you say. I find that it simply avoids motorways and takes a more direct route on worse roads than otherwise.

Anyway that is a discussion for the TT forum I guess , not here.

Any other Garmin users have a view.

Garmin CitySelect Europe v7 used with iQue 3600

We have found that the iQue 3600 sees two types of road type, while the more modern iQue 3600a sees three types!!!!!!!!!!!

The iQue 3600 can take you on some 'Welsh scenic routes' from Fishguard Harbour to Severn Bridge when your setting says 'car'. When you change to 'truck' then the more obvious A40 and M4 roads are used.

The iQue 3600a would not have this problem.
The software contains more detail than the iQue needs!

So yes, the truck routes on Garmin are far more practical for caravans and motor caravans.

As a caravanner I always use 'truck' settings and speeds!
