Does anyone know , if the I3 is weather resisitant? I'm thinking of using one on a motorbike ( only in fair weather). It's so much cheaper that the BMW one!!!!!
PS Can you attach a head phone to it? |

I got mine to use mainly on the bike - buy a cheap tank bag (with a see-through cover) to stick it in and that'll deal with light rain. |

No it isn't water proof.
The Quest and StreetPilot 26xx are, but they don't do Speed Camera alerts. _________________ Gone fishing! |

8O I would be tempted to use nothing at all and keep a plastic bag handy for if you get caught in a shower. Not sure about mounting it, I wouldn't trust the suction mount with the bumps and vibration of a bike. You would also need to power it because it won't run for long enough on batteries.
It's a lot of messing around - wait a couple of months till the Quest 2 comes out and the prices of the Quest drop and then get one of these. The battery is rechargable, runs for at least 12 hours, comes with full European maps on CD, it's waterproof and you can get a rock steady RAM mount for your bike for about 25 quid. 8)
Doesn't have touch screen or Speed Camera alerts though. :x _________________ Gone fishing! |

Having made my own fixture from alloy and stainless fasteners the I3 works really well on my bike. I have designed it using the same "Ball" arrangment so it can be angled to suit and of course its all corrosion resistant. Design your own and get a local Tool Maker to manufacture one.
Not having an external ear phone plug is not really a problem as the display map is very clear and gives plenty of time to prepare for turns. |

Surely designing your own socket mount, and getting a local machine man to factor it for you is a faff that most of us can do without.
Not wishing to be rude....
Lobby for a waterproof version! |

Is it just out in the breeze then? I had mine in a tankbag at the weekend (and it was in a sandwich bag inside that). I've been thinkning of making up a mount like the suction one too. Guess with most light rain just a plastic bag over the top would be good enough to keep the rain off.
Where did you mount it to? I'm looking at either the handlebars or drilling the screen so it sits near the clocks. |

Give it a month or two and RAM will probably do a mount for it... _________________ Gone fishing! |

I'm not too fussed about making something - what I do for a living, plus got all sorts of machines and materials here... making the ball end is easy, just got to work out where to attach it to the bike... that pic looks good, though not sure where it would attach to. The more I think about drilling the screen on the bike, the more I suspect that it would cause an MOT fail, so handlebars are looking like a better area to aim for... |

What do you ride?
If you have round handlebars then the u-bolt works fine. The RAM website has lots of examples of people's bike mounts. _________________ Gone fishing! |
