Thank you for such an eloquent response, it is refreshing to read a post from a PCW employee who understands the rules of English
Whilst we are all guilty of poking fun at the sales staff I can understand why their knowledge isn't always what it should be and it would be an impossible task to ensure they were experts in every technology they sell.
It doesn't explain why there is only ever one till open even when there are ten customers queuing to part with their cash though ;) _________________ Darren Griffin |

What a great post. Honest, from the heart and whilst PCW-Monkey is critical of her employers it's meant as constructive criticism. I used to work in the car industry in a very senior position (I was an engineering problem fixer in simple terms) - my opinion of the product was that if you want to know what's really going on with the vehicle, ask the guys who buy it and ask the guys who build it.
In this PCW string we've got both customers and employee. Gathering information from peed off customers is the easy bit. Getting constructive input from employees who have insight and are articulate is difficult. Most just want to bitch and moan. Here's the exception. Well done Ms whoever-you-are; you're certainly not a PCW-Monkey and don't deserve to be called that. _________________ Garmin C320 & Garmin Quest |

Would your response have been so 'lovely' if she had not mentioned she was female? |

Don't let's get silly please, boys - I thought DPL's post was very well put and I'm sure he was not being at all patronising or influenced by the poster's gender at all - there was nothing in his post that would suggest so.
That's not what this forum is about.

Can I join in with something positive about PCW? When my old PDA died recently, I needed a replacement and didn't have time to buy off the web as I usually would.
I went to my local PCW and found the IPAQ 4700 which was one of the 3 machines on my shortlist. However when I established that their best price was £400, over the top however desperate I was, the assistant suggested I went home and checked their web price, where it might be a bit cheaper.
It was actually £80 less, so I ordered it and drove back to PCW to collect exactly the same box I had held an hour earlier. If you know what you want, give it a try. |

Yes, I did notice the smiley, but your comment wasn't necessary and had nothing constructive to add to the thread, hence my reply.

You can't blame pc world for answers you couldnt find on GPS units.. we (pc world) specialise in personal computers and accessories for them (hence the name PC World and not GPS World).. the GPS units are just extras that we happen to sell just like how let's say Tesco might sell a computer monitor even though they're not really a computer store! If you want further information on navigation systems, why don't you make good use of the net to do your research instead of coming into the store blindly and asking staff about navigation kits. We normally have one or two advisors in the sales team that specialises in navigation systems and when he/she isn't available then the others try their best to assist customers. It's plonkers like some of you in here that come in not knowing jack shite about such kits and just to get rid of you we just sell you the navigation kit that we're trying to clear stock of! And when some people start getting a bit rude they deserve the most crap devices given to them knowingly and by the time you realise its not good, the 14 day return policy is over and you're stuck with it!
We, as staff have the last laugh always.. one way or another! So if you really are there to ask for honest advice i can give you some now... get a life! 8) p.s. at the end of it all, you shall return! muahahaha! |

Bad apples? I rest my case.
But thank you for the kind words from the more sensible people who read this forum. Please don't take Mr/Ms Bad Apple as representative of PCWorld staff but unfortunately, anyone who comes into store and gets this person is going to make comments exactly like we have seen in this forum. And who can blame them!
My advice to anyone shopping at our stores and gets someone like Mr/Ms Bad Apple? We all wear a name badge. When you're in for your item please make a note of the advisors name. If you have just been sold "the most crap device" then complain, either to store or to Head office (address on PCWorlds website).
PCWorld will never be perfect - we can't please all the people all the time - but we sure can improve. A lot.
x
Oh. We often only have one till open because of lack of staff and you know PCWorlds answer to this? Cut staffing levels in stores (which they did recently). Bad apples at all levels it would seem. |

PCW-Monkey -I really do pity what you have to put up with after reading a post like this.
This kind of person really does give your business a bad name and stops the likes of me walking through the door nevermind returning.
Let's hope that your mamangement see the light and eventually put people like this in their place and employ more people with your attitude.
Hang in there. _________________ Thanks,

By the sounds of it you'll probably find that tq is a member of the Senior Management team at PCWorld!
I agree with a previous post about Staples. Ok they dont sell too much GPS gear and their shop staff are still a bunch of spotty teenagers. Its just that Staples' spotty teenagers are a damn site more polite than most high street shop staff and they do seem to know a reasonable amount about the products they are selling. |

From my experience always happy to help as well. To be honest last time I went there the product knowledge was good too. _________________ Thanks,

Here's why I love PC world
The place big ads with incredible special offers... but when you go in, they havent got any in stock EVER , havent had any, and arent getting any. Is that legal?
When there's a problem (and there often is) try and speak to a manager. The manager in our local store is an aggressive bully who doesnt care about honesty or integrity, and definitely not about his customers. I've also heard from staff that he doesnt care much for them either! But he's still there (and I dont shop there any more).
Heaven knows how they manage to stay in business![/list] |

A few years ago while at Uni, I got a summer job at PC World, Glasgow.
I was so bored that I spend most of the time upstairs in the stock room on the phone! I spent the rest of the time in the staff room sleeping.
The managers were ignorant and not very good at all, the staff were target driven and had very poor computer knowledge, and the cleaners used to steal stuff until they got found out and sacked. |
