So what do you guys wait before posting something about Windows Mobile 2005?
It's a major update to an OS that IS the core of what most of us use AND includes changes bound to affect GPS software and GPS usage. WM2k5 includes some kind of GPS drivers IN it and as I can understand it allows for some kind of sharing (a la GPSGate).
So... we are waiting. |

Indeed but there is little point in regurgitating the screenshots and spec posted on every other PDA site. When we get a WM2005 unit we'll post about it but until then it's just hot air. _________________ Darren Griffin |

Exactly. As we commented before the built in GPS support doesn't mean that the application vendors will actually use it - quite the contrary is currently the case. _________________ Lutz

if these new drivers are something like GPSGate then I presume they WILL be used by many (TomTom take note with your proprietary drivers) and it will mean a unified way to read GPS data which can only be "A Good Thing"(tm) ...I mean how "smart" is it to read NMEA (or SiRF) data? It's nothing THAT special (again, unlike what TomTom wants us to believe). Why not leave it to the OS? Come on... |

it's an interesting topic. This mostly revolves around support costs. by locking down you reduce support costs and make advanced users furious... _________________ Lutz

And a few of us non advanced users that want to use other applications, not just their own drivers.
Simon leaves the building, but not without starting GPSGate, TTN3, GPSDash, GPSinfo, VisualGSPce or Mapoplis. I can find my way around the world, it's just a woman's brain that confuses me. Even when I do stop for those directions, I get ticked off... _________________ iPhone5, TomTom, Google maps, Navfree, Viewranger and Apple Maps (ekk) |
