I have two iPAQs (3970 and 2210) both these iPAQs are able to connect to my home PC and my office PC. Recently I had to have a loan PC in the office and I was able to set-up MS ActiveSync 3.8 on it with no problems. I had to remove one of the computers names (old office PC) for it to work.

I have now been given a new office PC and I went through the following procedures in MS ActiveSync:

1. Standard partnership
2. Synchronise with this desktop computer.
3. Confirm device name

However I get the following message:

This device name is already in use.
You must enter a different name for your mobile device.

I wish to keep the same mobile device name, especially on the 3970, which is running TTNav 3.07 and GPSAssist. GPSAssist unfortunately registers the mobile device name and not the user name, therefore I wish to keep the same mobile device name.

My home PC is running MS ActiveSync 3.7.1. I tried MS ActiveSync 3.8 on my new office PC, I then uninstalled it and loaded MS ActiveSync 3.7.1. I still have the problem.

Can anybody advise where the relationship between mobile devices and PCs is stored on both the mobile device and the PC? Is it possible to edit the stored information to allow me to set up partnerships again?

Regards,

You will need to go into the registry on your PC and delete the partnership. You can find the partnerships under HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows CE Services.

You also need to go on the PC to DRIVE:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Microsoft\ActiveSync\Profiles and delete the profile there.

Hi MrT

Many thanks for your reply. :D :D :D
Your solution worked a treat! Thank you! :D :D :D

I first tried the second part of your solution, i.e. I deleted the profile folders on the PC and it worked.

I don’t know if I do need to go into the registry on my PC and delete the partnership, as I’d already done it via ActiveSync, i.e. File | Mobile Device | PDA name (to select the PDA partnership), and then File | Delete Partnership.

If I get time today I’ll have a look at the registry on my PC and see what partnerships are in the registry, compared to the ones in the user interface of ActiveSync.

Once again, many thanks!!! First Me Me Me Me Me Me Me Me Me

Regards,
