Hi there
Only my second post......great forum by the way...really helped me on my buying choice...
A question for you all:
I have installed the UK map, Major roads of Western Europe and the France map....
I intent to take a journey to Les Arcs...this is found perfectly on the french map however it appears unable to realise that it has other maps on the SD card and will not plan a journey across maps as it were....
I could just use the major roads map but obviously i do not get the same level of detail...
Am i missing something or do i need to plan multiple journeys to the edge of each map then manually change the map file and carry on?

I haven't got the detail maps of any European country yet, but I understood from other posts that there was a "whole country" map at the same detail as the subdivisions. Have you selected the whole of France map? Rather than the "bits"?
I understood the subdivision maps were just there to allow you to drive in one area and not have to buy a big SD card.
TTG will not automatically cross maps. It's considered the best way to go is to plan on the Major Roads Map and then switch to the french map as you cross the border. |

TTG can only use one map at a time - so the choice is between changing map at each border crossing to get the detail, or doing the whole thing in one go with MRE - with less detail.
Unless you want to make use of a lot of built-in POIs along the route (MRE doesn't have any!) you may find that MRE is sufficiently detailed anyway.
A possible way to do it is to plan the whole route using MRE, note which border crossings and/or ferry routes it uses, and then switch to the detailed individual maps and create route segments between those crossing points.

Bobbybox:
The fact that TTG doesn't switch automatically from map to map - although it would be convenient - isn't a problem in practice.
I have the 4-CD "Countries of Western Europe", Major Roads of Europe (MRE) and a 1GB SD memory thingy and have used these extensively in Europe. It is very easy and natural to drive across Europe from a point in one country to a destination in another using only the MRE. Only when you get within a sensible distance of your final destination is there any need to switch to the detailed national map to find detailed streets and lanes. Otherwise the MRE takes you everywhere, crossing frontiers, etc.
If - on your journey - you fancy stopping off at a particular shop or town, there's nothing to prevent you switching temporarily to the detailed map while you drive around locally. Otherwise, you'll be sticking to MRE.
Enjoy your relaxed driving with TTG !
