PAYG car Insurance via GPS

There was an announcement on the local radio yesterday regarding a new Car insurance scheme that has just been launched.
'Pay-per-mile' or 'Pay As You Go' car cover.

A 'black box' is fitted to the car. It uses Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology to record the journeys of the car. This information is then transmitted securely to Norwich Union via a mobile phone network

Makes the discussion in this thread all the more real.

NU are trialling this service at the moment. It will be interesting to see the results of this trial.

Whilst in theory it sounds like it could be a good idea, particularly for low mileage drivers I wonder how they handle loss of signal or even fraudulent attempts to prevent the signal from being received? They may be using a GSM signal from the blackbox which is used to update NU with billing information to give a rough idea that the vehicle has moved and correlate this with the more accurate GPS location.
