Hi there !
Just got a TOMTOM GO with BENELUX map, and some POI's for fuel stations, for example.
I'd like to know if there is any PC sowftware available to "read", open the BENELUX map I transfered on my PC, and add the fuel station POI's on it to locate them.
In fact, the purpose is to select the fuel station brand I want from that POI, and display them on the Map, on my PC.
Is there any tool doing this ?
Any tool that can allow you to "browse" your Map on a PC ?
Hope you can help ! |

I don't know of any way of displaying the TomTom maps per se on a PC.
However, you may be able to do what you want if you use MS Autoroute. You'd be using Autoroute's map, of course, but you could superimpose POI's from TTG onto it.
This will only work with add-on POI's - not with those which come as standard with the TTG maps. If you've got an .ov2 file, you can use one of the free utilities to convert this into a text file in .csv format. You can then import this .csv file into Autoroute as a set of 'Push Pins' which will be displayed on the Autoroute map on your PC.
Is this any good? |

Anybody else knows about how to display TOMTOM GO maps and POI's on a PC, to make POI management easier from the PC, and then copy them to TOMTOM GO ?
Thanks ! |

No, my reference to AutoRoute relates to a desktop PC - not a Pocket PC.
TomTom's maps seem to be in some sort of encrypted format - and no-one has so far admitted to having found a way to decode them!
AutoRoutes maps are very similar to TomTom maps, right down to street level detail - and any TomTom POI which you convert to an AutoRoute PushPin will display in exactly the right place on AutoRoute.
But you would have a acquire a copy of AutoRoute to be able to do it - UK price about 50 UKP.
[You can go the other way, too. If you want to create a set of POI's for TTG, it's much easier to mark the locations in AutoRoute on your PC screen (where you can see a much larger area in detail) - and then convert them to POI's and copy them to your SD card. |

Hmmm, that could be really useful! How would I export a pushpin set from Autoroute and then get it into a POI file that the GO could read?
I assume I need POIEdit or some similar such utility? |

You need to save your AutoRoute map - complete with PushPins - as a .axe file.
You then need POIConverter (not POIEdit) - which can read the .axe file and create a .ov2 file with a POI for each PushPin.
Optionally, you also need to create a .bmp file (with the same name as the .ov2 file apart from the extention) with a 22x22 bit icon to display your POIs on TTG. |
