Does anyone know if there are any plans to enable you to lock TTG with a password the same as on mobile phones so that they cannot be used if stolen. The code system would have to be built into the firmware not the SSD. Its a very expensive and attractive item, untraceable and normally on display in the windscreen.
I know you can remove it but the mount is normally still there telling any would be thieves that it may be hidden in the car. |

There are no obvious plans for that. As a precaution you should note down the device code of your TTGO, so at least you can give the police SOME information. _________________ Lutz

I have just bought ttg to partly replace Road Pilot which are not available till later this month. It was stolen from locked and alarmed car (4X4) outside my house 11am busy road. Two ten ish yr olds smashed windows with hammers and rode off on bikes when challenged by passing motorist who gave me and police accurate description of them they were new paper boys that week and worked for local paper shop, true to form police have not followed this up!. total cost to me was 2K in device lost work time and insurance excesses. roadpilot have said they will monitor any attempt to buy the modem without which it cant be updated, but couldnt offer any other help. I only nipped in for a leak too!
My advice leave a big unfreindly rottwieler in your car when you leave it for any reason!
but all manufacturers inc TTG should password protect these devices at least the B*****s wouldnt be able to sell or use them. |

Problem would come if a simple `reset` cleared it. |

No, the device ID stays the same throughout reset. _________________ Lutz

Yes, but would a user-defined password (if the facility existed) survive a reset? |

Software could be setup to ask for password before reset is allowed.

Maybe!
On the occasions when mine has locked up - displaying the hands - it's been impossible to turn it off with the button, and the only remedy has been to reset it with a paperclip - which turns it off.
When it is in this state, I very much doubt whether it would be able to invoke a bit of code to ask for a password! |
