OK.. everyone here is going to think I'm really stooopid.

Further to my other posts... I've paid and subscribed for Tomtom Traffic.
What's this about needing a GPRS connection!?

Does this mean I need a Bluetooth phone to work with my Pocket PC??
Does this mean I have to pay for data download on my phone account?

Erm... there was NOTHING on the sign up pages for the product!
(OK... so I didn't bother with the trial.)
The product page just said: fantastic product, sign up here - there was no mention of needing a GPRS connection. Sad

Erm... HELP!

Thanks.

You don't sound stupid at all. It's as you found out - you will have to pay for the traffic service AND for the GPRS data package transfer, too.

If your Pocket PC doesn't have an integrated phone then yes, you need a BT enabled GSM phone, too.

Sorry if it sounds if I am rubbing things in, but how did you expect to receive the traffic information?

Sadly all the information you need is there under "requirements" in the "more information" section of the TomTom Traffic section.

http://www.tomtom.com/products/section.php?ID=10&Section=14&Language=1

I subscribed last week and it works well for me.

Bad luck

Raymond

Hi Jammer,

You do need a bluetooth phone; an unlocked Nokia 6310i with at least 5.50 firmware is ideal. To check the firmware key in *#0000# on the phone.

I’ve just signed up for TT Traffic myself. I’ve now gone for a dedicated Nokia 6310i with an Orange PAYG SIM for use with TT Traffic. The set-up appears to work reasonably well.

I was very impressed with the Orange website and the telephone technical support that Orange gave me in order to get the iPAQ and the Nokia communicating with each other.

Further advice, if you do go for the Orange PAYG SIM:
1. Contact Orange and ask them to enable WAP and GPRS on your PAYG SIM card. You may have to wait up to 48 hours before you can try GPRS.
2. Ask for your free WAP/GPRS credit. I was given £12.00 worth of WAP credit to be used in one month. It’s a really good test of TT Traffic.

Regards,

well... i'm not that gloomy now actually. Smile
can u tell me how much the gprs data will cost me when downloading?
i know it's like askign how long a piece of string is...
but any indication would be useful.
thanks.

also... if anyone is interested... have a look at the following link:

http://www.e2save.com/mobile/phones/disphandset.php?network=three&handset=7600

£3.99 a month for 500 free minutes to ANY network AND a Bluetooth phone!
ok... so it's the 3 network... and because of coverage it may not be good fro everyone.

Unless it's changed recently, 3 UK don't offer any data services other than their "walled garden". You need to look at another network.
