Hi there peeps,

What is the difference between the different POI's in the speed camera database?

I have the following on my TT go...

pocketgps_continental
pocketgps_uk_gatso
pocketgps_uk_mobile
pocketgps_uk_redlight
pocketgps_uk_specs

I know one of them is for speed cameras, but what about the rest? If someone could please take the time to explain what each one is for....

Thanks,

What you don't say is which country you're talking about. It helps everyone if you set the Location in your profile.

In the UK, GPS based camera warning devices are completely legal; some Safety Camera Partnerships even publish locations of their cameras.

In France, I believe that any camera warning devices are illegal; if you're caught with one, my understanding is that you can be asked to run over the device to destroy it as well as having to pay a fine.

i live in France. The law is that a GPS device is fine, as it doesn't pyhsically detect radar. Radar detector devices are most definitely illegal.

So sorry, I'm new to this, and am in the UK! Smile

What I mean is that.. which CAMERA will fine me?
From what I gather; the gatso cameras are the radar ones which flah right?

The grey cameras (traffic cameras) are the ones infront of traffic lights?

I still dont know why my tomtom shows me those cameras with the $ sign on it? Perhaps you can clear that up! Smile

All cameras will produce a fine if you go past them at the wrong speed or time.

Gatsos/Truvelo measure your speed by radar and will take your photo if you go too fast. Usually flash. Sometimes you get lucky and there is no camera in the box.

Mobile sites are places where the police have been seen with camera vans, handheld lasers etc.

Redlight cameras will take your picture if you drive though a red traffic light. Some also work like Gatsos when the lights are green. Usually flash.

Specs cameras work in pairs. They are set at a fixed distance apart (half a mile?) They scan the number plate of every car at both places. A computer compares the scans and the time and works out your average speed between the two. No flash, no people, just computers.

The "$" icons show where cashpoint machines are. Nothing to do with cameras!!
