Does it look like a proprietary battery, or a standard mobile phone one (eg Nokia)?

As part of an in-car solution, would you rate it better than the Fortuna clip-on at the moment.
Price ~ same
Battery life ~ same
Size - Fortuna has slight advantage
Design - Fortuna older but more "developed" (firmaware update already available), Holux more state of the art, but maybe less stable at, the moment
Build quality - Holux a little better?
Performance - Holux a little better (one review [not here] *suggests* XTRAC mode automatically comes on only when required???).
Any insights? Holux would *seem* to be the better compromise...

It's close to a Nokia battery, although I don't have one to hand. |

I spotted this thread. Holux tech support claim it's "- battery is the same as Nokia 7X/8X series - but the HOLUX battery can withstand greater temperature such as is typically found on the dashboard of cars!"

One more question before I buy a RD-231:
Is the BT-connection really stable?
On gpspassion.com a few people are suggesting ther could be a problem with it. |

I have used the GR231 with my iPAQ 2210 for two weeks now & never lost the blutooth connection. I now need to find out how I can hard wire the GR231 into my car's electrics and leave it permantly switched on, on the rear parcel shelf. |

The issues seems to be to figure out how to stop it powering down by itself when there's no Bluetooth connection. It *may* be that it detects external power to prevent this... Not that this would help someone using a serial cable when running off batteries

I can confirm that the 8850 batt (BLB-2) is identical to the one in the GR-231 except for being 3.6 instead of 3.7V. Worked fine though. |
