"Proving" to TomTom that it was stolen would be simple with your "police report".
I tend to agree that this incident was perhaps unfortunate by the thief lucking onto the Go unit in the boot, or maybe he saw hassisbabe put it there, either way it is still a pain to have lost it .

Blocking the unit is a simple procedure, which will be looked into .

Very Funny, pretending to be from TomTom.

Had an email from the REAL TomTom Support, maybe this will clear it up wether it can or can't be disabled,

Dear Mr Whittaker,

Sorry but if you GO is stolen thats it ...it can not be disabled

With best regards,

The TomTom Customer Support Team

that from the official support team, not a bogus one, as the above quote suggests

Can you cool this please? Just because others may hold a different viewpoint, resorting to ridicule and sarcasm will not help in any way. Stop!

I agree with Tim. Go away for a couple of days and you start getting riots in the forums! Geez, can't you Gun Shoot Out guy's ever play nice ?

Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop! Stop!

1) The fact of the matter is crime report is required if you are going to try and receive compensation for loss off an insurance company. That's whether you are claiming under car insurance, or third party insurance.

2) It's not possible to disable TomTom GO because the activation key is only required to authorise the maps which means if TomTom were to disable the activation code it would only stop them at the point of re-installing maps from the CD (which they won't have).

3) As per (2) TomTom could disable the activation code, whether it's technically possible is another matter as they may not be able to do this on their activation server manually.

Sorry to hear your TTGO was stolen. Mines like a member of the family. I reckon Ebay is the place to keep looking. You can always ask someone to give you the serial number to prove it is genuine - worth a try.

All household policies with Accidental damage cover will also cover personal property and will cover your TTGO - mine has paid out £300 for a mobile phone I had stolen out of my car. Don't waste your timne talking to the car insurance - they are out to take your money and will wriggle out of this one somehow.
