TomTom Go may never allow user preference to the zoom level

I just received an email from TomTom about the way the Go unit always defaults to its own zoom level, regardless what level the user wants.

When I zoom the unit out, it will only stay at that level for 10 seconds before it zooms back in to its own default zoom level. I find the default zoom level to be too close in. Its seems strange to me to allow the user to set the zoom level and then go back to a default!

This is a big shame because that is enough for me to already want to change to something else because the rest of th Go units features are good.

Can somebody recommend a similar unit to the go, with similar features, but allows the user to decide what zoom level is appropriate?

I think this is due to the target audience for the GO . GO users are expected not to mess with the settings. You may have noticed that there is also no option to change the route calculation style (shortest/quickest) or set the street category speed level - both standard features in TomTom Navigator.

If you need something to play with, go for a Pocket PC solution. Standalone systems will always limit user options (and support call volume)
