tomtom rejected????

hiya i'm new here

everytime when i try to update my tomtom software, or recent tomtom traffic 3.04, it installs on the compact 3850 but when i open the file it says on the compact ''no maps found, please install and activate an original tomtom navigator 3 map first'' when then i have to take of the tomtom traffic and take of the update.... and i works as normal???
