I recently purchased a TTG, and the only flaw I can see is the outdated UK mapping - a major 1 year old bypass near my place of work is not included, which significantly hinders effective route planning.
Is it likely that the new mapping product being announced here will be significantly more up to date than that shipped with a TTG 4.21?
Plus, since all I wish to do is replace the UK map on my SD card with an updated version, does anyone know if Tom Tom intends to sell just the UK map data rather than the (expensive!) SD card version.
Finally, could I thank everyone involved in the Pocket GPS forums - I had many questions answered, both directly and indirectly, whilst I was considering my purchase. |
My sentiments exactly.... is the updated maps available free or to buy...? |

The purpose of these maps are for users to buy mapping of another country ready to install and run on your GO. The maps are of the same quality as the current ones.
I would expect the updated maps to be announced at CeBIT in March. If TomTom follow thier normal upgrade procedure this will be a software update and latest maps (though they still may not include the road you are interested in). Last year the upgrade for TomTom Navigator 3 was 49 euros. _________________ Mike Barrett |

For most of us, removing all the voices we won't ever use (leave the 2 english english voices unless you especially like the american twang) frees up plenty of space to support the speed camera POIs etc.
The only time you are likely to need a larger SD card is if you want the european maps loaded as well. Or the US ones. In which case, buy the biggest SD card you can afford. |
Really?
Mine says:

App 4.420 (2852/041010) OS:201
32 mb RAM (free: 8.2 mb)

Is this all correct?
Totally Baffled. |

Yes. You have the latest TTG map. The 32Mb is the system Ram. The information doesn't show the SD card information. A larger card might be useful for further POI's. _________________ Richard

It looks OK to me. I don't know about the French version number, but if it works alright it's good.

|
|
Please can somebody help me, I am wanting to purchase a detailed map of France but have seen for sale Complete maps of Europe not on SD card but comes with 4 CD's enclosed, and suposed to be all detailed Maps, and are similar priced as the one just for France on SD Card.
My Question is if I purchased the Europe Maps on CD could one then just copy France Map to appropriate SD card. If so why should anyone buy the individual maps ect.
My guess is that one cannot and they is not an SD card with the storage Capasity for doing so.
Best Wishes

You can do exactly what you suggest. The Western Europe maps and a 1Gb memory card are by far the best option.
TomTom issued the pre-installed SD cards for people who didnt want the hassle of installing and activating. To my mind buying the SD card doesnt make much sense, but TomTom obviously think there is a market. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Thank you for your comments, looking at it from a cost point of view a 1g sd card will cost around £60.00 and the maps are around £110.00 thats £170.00
As I know I will not have use for the maps other than France it makes sence
just to purchase the France map at around £100.00, Unless one can just copy the France map from the CD's on a 256mb Sd Card. So am I right in thinking that one cannot copy just the France map from the CDs
Best Wishes

Sorry my answer was misleading for your requirements. You can just buy a 256Mb card and put the maps of France on it.
I was just trying to say that if you were to go to other places in Europe you could get the 1Gb card and you can fit just about al the maps on there. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Thanks for that Mike, I will now go and buy the Europe maps on the CD's and just copy the France Map to a SD Card.
I cannot think for the life of me why Tom Tom sell the maps individually when one can buy the CD's.
Thats great Mike thanks again for your help
Best Wishes
