Has anyone attempted to use the map files from TomTom Go with TomTom V3. Supposidly they should work, may need activation.

The reason for asking... I need updated maps for the West Midlands, as TomTom V3 is useless if you do not know all the new roads etc.

Are Tom Tom Go's maps more up to date than v3 then?

So I've been told, TT Go is supposed to include the M6 Toll road changes, and the reason for my interest. However I do not have access to the GO CDROM to test.

I do not want to restart the M6 Toll road debate, but one thing that has puzzled me is that both TT V3 & Go were announced at the same time at Cebit, and released the same time. Therefore why do they use different mapping data?

Firstly, TomTom GO was not released the same time as TTN3, they were both announced together at CeBit, but GO wasn't released until June/July.

GO does have later maps than what TTN3 has, and yes it does support the M6 Toll Road.

Sounds like you've had a bad day Dave.... your reply was a little harsh.

But will the map files from Go work with Navigator subject to activation?

My mates TTGO SD card works on my TT3 Ipaq 5450, recently used to go on a journey and the M6 Toll was programmed as part of the route on the Ipaq, probably a breach of licence use but an experiment which we tried and worked! Embarassed Thumbs Up

Great news Bob, you have confirmed what I thought, based on this there is no reason why the relevant map data should not be made available. Either via download or a new CD, I'd personally be happy to pay a reasonable admin fee to cover postage & packing etc.

What do others think?

Good idea, there must be many people who would prefer to subscribe (or have the company pay) for a quarterly map update rather than wait for the update to come with TT4 and have to live with out-of-date maps in the meantime.

Interesting, and it's not something I've tried, I will ask the question though.

Cheers Dave, look forward to an update on this.

It will be in TomTom's interest to offer a formal map update process otherwise the problem will be solved by unathorized copying of the TT GO map files.

Hold fire chaps, I have today attempted to use my Ipaq tt3, although TT3 Nav loaded it refused to bring up the maps, I have had to do a complete reinstall of the TT3 Nav onto my Ipaq which is know working correctly. One point with the TTGO maps which did work, they did not of course allow any use of the postcodes or anyother software use, speed cams etc. but to answer the original question they do work on TT3 and will allow you to programme routes using the M6 Toll :|

Clearly the map formats are the same since GO uses the Palm enginer (The new device independent Tomtom solution) and the Palm uses the same map CDs as the TTN3 for Pocket PC.

I have already asked the question of Tomtom. I basically said that I was dinstinctly ar..d off at buying Palm maps at the same time as Go was released and getting older maps than the GO ones. They said that Maps of Western Europe were not available for Go so I was barking up the wrong tree. They also said they had no plans for a map update in the near future.

Now I need to go back to them and say that GO MoWE are available and so I expect an update for Palm. Even though my maps are only a month old, I am willing to pay a small fee for upgrades.

We need a letter to Tomtom. Perhaps I will try to write an open letter for all to send.

This thread may help, in a nut shell TomTom have the data they are not prepared to give TT V3 UK users access, even those people willing to pay a further admin charge.
