I really am lost - i need to get a GPS system in my car before the end of the week as im making a huge journey with many stops and i hardly EVER driven outside of london!!
The first concern is cost - im looking at around £200-300. Is this enough to get something decent or should i really go up the range?
Ok my main points are :
1 - Transferable between cars - dont mind if it takes 30 minutes, but it needs to be able to switch cars.
2 - Actually works WELL - my friend had an early in car nav system and it was the worst thing i ever seen!
Would you suggest i go for an intergrated system or a PDA based system?
Suggest please guys - ideally like to get it in a total package from a retailer so i know it comes with everything i need! |

Hi JamesSykes,
to the forum.
Two possible solutions for you spring to my mind. If you wanted a "get-it-out-of-the-box-and-go" system, you could go for TomTom Go which is a lot simpler to use than some systems and is very useful if you don't want to spend hours setting up or configuring things.
However, if you want the added bonus of a PDA to use for other functions and an application with more features and configurability (is that a word?... It is now! ), what about an iPAQ 2210 and TomTom Navigator 3? This is quite a popular choice and works well on the set-up I've seen.
Have a read of the reviews on this site as most people find those to be very useful when making a decision on what to buy. These are just my suggestions, but I'm sure other people using other equipment will be able to jump in soon and tell you the benefits of their systems.
HTH.
Regards,
Bo Peep. _________________ TomTom 730

I dont have a problems with setting up/configuring stuff - im quite technically minded so i think ide prefer a PDA system whereby i have the flexability to do what i want, rather than get locked into a single purpose! |

Ive had a look online the cheapest i can find the 2210 bundle is around £450 odd. (For a full kit)
Am i gonna want to spent around that much or is it possible to get something good around the £300 mark? |

It sounds as if you would be glad to make good use of a PDA system - therefore a 2210 bundle is probably your best bet. Cheeper options would almost certainly limit your options.
I have been working full time on PCs for several years but found my introduction to PDAs and satnav quite difficult - and time consuming - so the "end of the week" would be very good going! |
