Hi, newbie here so please be gentle.

I have been toying with the idea of using my XDA I for Sat Nav in the car and hope someone can answer a few questions :-

I am contemplating buying an 'Arkon CM845 XDA II 2 PDA Car Charge Mount +GPS Receiver'. I have mailed Arkon Technical Support to see whether the XDA I is compatible but wondered if anyone on here knew ?

With regards to software, does anyone have any experiences of using sat nav on an XDA I and what s/w did you use (pros/cons) ?

I really don't want to spend a fortune getting this working but I do see this as an affordable alternative to having the car manufacturer in-built sat nav.

Any thoughts or answers would be greatly appreciated ?

Many Thanks

OBee

The Arkon mount 'may' work as the XDA and XDAII share the same connector.

There is no problem with using the XDA as a GPS unit, software wise I suggest you read the reviews and decide what features you value most, look at CoPilot, TomTom, Navman for starters, knowing where in the world you live would help give more precise answers though.

Obviously as the XDA has no BT facility you are limited to using a GPS Mouse or the Arkon solution with your maps going on the SD card.

Thanks for your reply Darren.

I did wonder whether the connector was the same.

My location is in my profile, West Yorkshire - UK.

Someone has given me the Medion Navigator software (v2.1 i think). It should work on the XDA. I will need a bigger card for the maps, perhaps a 256MB one will do.

It would be really useful to hear from anyone who has attempted to use the XDA I for sat nav - nothing like first hand experience.

Thanks again Darren. Great things these forums .....

Medion Navigator won't work as it is hardware locked to the receiver that came with the Medion PDA Bundle.

Thats what I'd of thought but a friend installed it onto his PDA (not the Medion bundle) and it works fine.

Like I said in my original post, I don't really want to spend alot and the s/w seems quite pricey.

You get what you pay for I'm afraid. Medion software is OK, basic but works, there are much better packages.
