To cut a very long story short I have genuine Garmin NT North America micro SD map card which would not work in a new 2569 device I bought. Tried the card in various other nuvi devices and it worked no problem. After much discussion Garmin say the card is faulty and ask me to return it which I've done, got an email tonight from them stating that they've received the card but there is no data and the card is blank. This can't be possible as I tried it in my 2508 model before posting to them. How can I prove this card does contain data and was in full working order. Feeling angry and frustrated. |

You could search for file recovery software to download and run on the sd card.
Several years ago I used Recuva, and was able to recover irreplaceable photos and videos of my son's wedding after taking the card into a place in Cape Town to have the files backed up to DVD. They managed to delete 80% of them from the card before copying them , but Recuva got them back for me . _________________ Anita

I guess also you never backed up the files from the card? _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Thanks Anita however the data was on the card when sent to Garmin, I'm 100% certain as I checked it on my sat nav before posting. At no time have I ever deleted any files from the card and can't have sent the wrong card as I only have one micro SD. I did not make a back up as I wouldn't know how too, thanks. |

I assumed you would get the card back from Garmin and check if there is any data on it. If there isn't, and you say there was before you sent it to them, it must have been deleted somehow after you posted it. It would be worth running file recovery software on the card in the hope you could retrieve the data. If it was successful you could then back the files up to your computer before getting into further discussions with Garmin. _________________ Anita

I have now written a letter to Clifton A Pemble. I'm normally quite a calm person but this whole scenery with Garmin has really wound me up. Probably won't reply but got to be worth a try. |

Some time ago I very carefully and deliberately formatted my hard drive, being quite sure I wasn't losing anything, as I had everything on cards and external hard disks and all my program installation disks. Ten minutes later I realised I had lost all my photos!
On the advice of Anita, I downloaded and used Recuva and it worked (I actually got back more than I had lost, because it also recovered all the little thumbnails from somewhere too).
So take her advice too and give your card a go. _________________ Dennis

I am one very happy man tonight, I received an email a couple of hours ago from Garmin stating they have concluded their investigation into my issues and have decided to send me a brand new 2569 LMT-D sat nav and brand new latest version North America map card which will both be tested before sending to me. |

Somewhere on this forum, I'm pretty sure there's advice offered to new owners, namely to take a backup copy of their devices/SD cards. All too often, new users see that advice after they haven't done so, so make sure you don't suffer that fate again. _________________ Dennis

Thanks DennisN, I did not make a back up of the card but it's not really an issue as the card info was not lost, I phoned Garmin tonight and went ballistic with a supervisor/manager and was informed that the map card was not blank at all. They said they could not guarantee that it was genuine however as it was bought from another seller but they said it probably was genuine. They could not understand why the 2569 I originally purchased could not read it and to resolve the issue they would dispatch me a brand new 2569 and map card once I've returned my 2508 to them. |

That seems strange. I would have expected them to ask you to return the 2569 that can't read the card and is therefore possibly faulty, rather than the non-faulty 2508, which you might want to keep as a backup device, or pass on to a relative or friend, or sell. _________________ Anita

Well it's still worth making a back up of the new card when you get it. You won't be able to use the files as they're locked to the card but should it become corrupted you can then reload the back up to it. _________________ Where there's a will ... there's a way. |

Hi Anita, sorry I didn't really explain the story properly as this is a very long story and I don't want to bore you but basically I purchased a 2569 that could not read my map card so I exchanged it in store for another 2569 which also could not read the card, neither could the 2599. All other Garmin models can read the card, I was going to USA a few days later and needed a sat nav that could read my card so I exchanged the 2569 for a 2508. I wrote to Garmin explaining my story and the fact that I had exchanged to a model I didn't want but had to as going on holiday and told them about all the problems I had. Therefore I no longer have the 2569, I have the 2508. I explained I would rather have the 2569 as its my preferred choice but it needed to be able to read my map card. I also sent my map card to Garmin for investigation and ive had conflicting reports as to whether it has data on it or not, an email stated the card was blank however a supervisor said it wasn't, I know the card was ok as it was checked before sending and I used it in USA recently. I could spend another hour typing the story in full but this is a brief version. |
