Hi
I would like to ask if the forum has a service for members who are not very good at computers that would allow them to send thier sat nav to more experienced members to install the camera database on to thier device and of course pay them for thier services.
Thanks

Whilst there is nothing formal setup I cant see why you can't make the arrangement yourself through the forum.

However the installer will need a copy of the database you have downloaded or your login details (username and password) for this site. You would be handing either of these over at YOUR OWN RISK.

Also the database is updated most weeks. Would it not pay dividends to ask for help here and learn the skills you need? Most popular models aren't that difficult to install and update. There are guides too.

I have done it for one member and spent an evening on the phone talking another through it several times to learn it at his computer. I volunteered it and did it for nothing and I'm sure I'm not the only one (e.g. Mikealder has). And I'll willingly do it again for anybody who cares to ask (just Nav2 TomToms). And a couple of weekends ago I sorted out somebody's postcodes by calling in at his house in Weston-super-Mare when we went out for lunch at the seaside.

I'm pretty sure many of us would do the same, but it's really a case of somebody posting s/he needs help, anybody nearby please?

Also you can use remote software like Team Viewer to take over and control somes ones PC. Skype could be used to chat at the same time as demonstrating the steps. It would have to be a non profit arrangement though if using the free version.

Assuming it stays as an ad-hoc arrangement between a helper and the person requesting help, then I think the first thing to do is give your rough location and sat-nav type in a forum post and that might inspire someone nearby and with similar kit to offer assistance

Something simple is all that is needed, for example, a list of members and their location with a rough distance they would travel to help someone install the DB and show them how to do it in the future.

So for example, I would say

Steven in Newcastle upon Tyne willing to travel C. 20 miles

Set up a POI category.

I really think it has to be only "willing" - I wouldn't go so far as to put any distances, just your location. When I did the guy at W-S-M the other day I travelled nearly 30 miles, BUT we chose to have a day out at the seaside. I'd be reluctant to drive 20 miles in my own time and fuel etc (I refuse to accept payment for helping out - everybody who has helped me has done it for free).

Hi
I was very pleased at the response I got regarding members who are not very good on the computer and getting other members to install the camera database on their sat nav for them I live in Glasgow but I don't mind posting my unit to any member who would be willing to help me out and I would pay for the return postage of course also I am not a subscribed member at the moment but I would subscribe to the forum as it would not be fair not to.

A very special thanks to everyone

You HAVE to be a subscribed member to get the camera database.

Great. So if you need assistance, you can post your device details. From a previous post of yours, I guess it's a Start 60 and Andy gave you info on how to install on that.

I suppose it's a matter of familiarity, but if you coped well enough with your XXL, I'm sure you will with the Start 60. Ask if you need help (not from me, I haven't bought one of those).

Hi Dennis thanks for your reply just to let you understand I do not have the pocketgpsworld camera database in the XXL or the start 60 as I made a complete hash of installing the database on both of them and I am just a wee bit scared to attempt it again in case I mess them up.

Thanks from Eddie

I have to stand back from this as I have no experience of either device.

Let's hope somebody comes along to volunteer some help for you. At least you know how to work a computer, so that's over 90% ready.

Are these devices both based on the MyTomtom interface? The application that you use to update them?
