I've used some chargers from a firm called Duragadget (aka SuperPS), that contained the requisite resistor to let the Nüvi know it's connected to a charger.

If you search for "duragadget nuvi charger" on Amazon you should find them. They also sell on eBay.

One downside of all the third-party chargers I've seen, is that the mini-USB 'B' plug is straight, rather than being angled at 90°. This may or may not matter to you...

(I have no connection with Duragadget, other than as a customer.)

Has the design changed? My 3790 from last July has micro USB on the unit but mini USB on the mount. In both cases a charger powers it without it going into PC-connection mode: my Palm Pre phone charger for the micro, Hama or Arkon 12volt-to-USB-for-GPS for the mini (try 7dayshop for these). All have straight plugs but that's not an issue for the 3790 mount, which accepts a plug into the side.

Almost there Smile

Argos have 2 Nuvi 2200 units:

504 3282
497 0167

Wonder what the difference is ?

The more expensive one comes with two Euro country maps as well, presumably you get to choose which ones to activate on launch.

I can't see any difference between the supplied maps - I suspect Argos have got their cataloguing messed up, the more expensive one (which mentions 'free updates' for traffic, but no receiver - one never comes without the other, the licence is built in to the receiver lead) must - should - be the 2200T, even though Argos give the Garmin non-traffic part number and the same EAN for both. The cheaper one has no Garmin part number, and the dimensions are badly wrong...

Anyway, why buy from Argos when both models are cheaper elsewhere?

I got a £40 Argos voucher for Xmas and being as there's nothing else I particularly want at the moment Smile

I've noticed that the cheaper one is in stock for collection whilst the more expensive one is web order only.

I think I'll gamble on the cheaper one and collect this week. I only want it to replace my TalexLite.

I've noticed that the Talex database is updating regularly whilst the Novus one is now stagnant since about the first week of March and the 'website coming shortly' is now well overdue.

Thanks for all the info..........

Now got a cheap and cheerful Nuvi 2200 with the Travel Pack.

Given the USB cable a quick test and I can confirm that connecting the USB cable does indeed assume that you are connecting to a PC ................. until you put the unit in the mount when it switches to navigation mode.

USB connector far more unobtrusive IMO.

Now to get my head around the POI loader to deal with the Cameras and Voice files. Looks like I'll be watching the video tutorial Smile
