One feature request:
- Would it be possible to add one option in the settings to automatically launch an application of choice as soon as cameralert loads up? In this way, I only need to hit the cameralert icon to automatically getting cameralert running in the background and my favourite satnav app launched in the foreground.

I use Tasker android app, I'm sure you could set a profile such that when CamerAlert was launched you could also launch e.g. Google maps - and turn on bluetooth at the same time.

I posted this on the android news release but for some reason it ended up on the iPhone thread. Does anyone know if the allow automatic updating updates the camera files as well as the app? Or do you have manually remember to update each time a database comes outg

Separate updates, one is market app, t'other is camera subscription. You can check camera update using Manage Cameras option.

I have two android phones and I installed cameralert on both. I linked my PGPSW subscription to one phone (the one I use daily) succefully. I then tried to link my second phone and of course it failed saying that linking is only allowed for one phone at the time. I have one problem with that. In my line of work I change my phone about every 3-4 months as I have access to the latest android phones for testing purposes. I can raise a ticket with PGPSW every time I change my phone to move the subscription to the new phone. Will this be a problem from your side?

We have now upped the limit to three devices so you can now retry the link.

If you use up your three permitted 'links' then you will need to raise a ticket to have one or more removed.

Also, in Android market place, when you downoad the app, it says "A subscription can be used on other GPS devices as well as the Android (maximum of three devices, one of which may be and Android or iPhone Smartphone)". Does it mean that I can use it either on my iphone or on my android, but not on both? If yes, what are the other two devices I could use it on? (I believe these two devices do not include a windows mobile phone with TomTom or a PNA device or an android phone with other satnavs, supporting other formats, like OV2, MacGuider, etc... I can install and use the camera files downoaded from PGPSW website on these, without having this limit of three). How is this limitation to max 3 devices actually working, as I don't get it really?

The specific licence restriction is now for 3 devices max. You can choose to use them in whichever combination of devices you choose.

We can control the number as far as CamerAlert usage goes, but for other devices where you download the database from the site we have no physical control - but you will be in breach of the licence terms if you install on more than three devices in total. I'm sure you will agree that our terms are more than fair in this regard, other services will lock you to one single install per subscription.

We will not change that. The database has to be stored in the main memory. Did you get your refund?

Don't understand why the database has to be on the phone. The cameras I download for co-pilot reside on the sdcard why not these?
I did get my refund thanks.

Ok. Got it. Three devices is more than enough. In fact, it is my perfect number: two androids and one PNA ;)

Thx.

Nice one. Request duly noted. HOWEVER! Now you also need to come up with a good name for that feature. "good" meaning usable in UI terms.

What about under miscellaneous in the advanced settings, with wording "Launch app automatically" with short description and a tick box on the right side. Once you tick the box, it opens a new window where it shows the list of apps available taken from the main app grid? You can choose the app and that's it. You can then replace the short description with the name of the chosen app or similar.

Does it sound feasible? Or do you have a better idea?

OK, The problem with that is that it means I need to spend another £3.99. It is not much, but it also means having another app with many features that I do not need. If this is integrated in cameralert is much better.

I am trying to find some free apps that can do the same since yesterday, but no luck yet.

Tasker's a great app, you'd be surprised what you can use it for - it might even save you downloading other apps because you can do the same thing with Tasker Smile

Our app is very different to the simple POI alert facility found in a nav app.

Unlike a nav app, we have no concept of road networks - the Google Map is simply a graphical underlay. And so the app is constantly comparing its GPS location with locations in the database and then calculating which, if any. of them will be coming into our proximity shortly.

This is a very intensive process and the performance hit, were the database to be located on a memory card, would cause issues. The wide range of speeds and qualities, of memory card are also a factor.

Never say never though, if and when we can run the app effectively with both app and data on SD, we will support that.

What device do you have?

Ok. "Easy profiles lite" (free version) does the job. It i similr to tasker. I made a rule that run my satnav program (Sygic Aura) as soon as "cameralert" is launched or resumed. Perfect.

But, this apps use CPU and battery as they need to monitor the activity in the backgound. If I get poorer battery life with this I will use "manual" activation of a profile (needs two taps on a widget on the home screen) to trigger the launch of cameralert and my satnav app after that. Not perfect, but acceptable until they integrate this in cameralert (hopefully).

If you're going to use a SatNav app in-car, or our CamerAlert app, or both, then you really need to invest in a charger.

Of course.
I was referring to the effect on battery of these profile/task applications when they monitor in the background all the time, not just when using cameralert and satnav app.

Cheers.

P.S. It seems that in my case "Easy Profile Lite", the application is in "sleep" mode until the trigger (which is the "cameralert running") kicks in. So, it sems I will be ok battery-wise after all.

Interesting discussion. This sounds like a good solution, and in keeping with the way Android settings usually work.
