Does anybody know where the ini files is that holds the max number of pois that can be added and by changing this does it effect performance that much?
lads2000 - the only info I've seen at the mo is on page 3 of this thread. But the relevant ini file was quite easy to find from the 'My Computer' (or similar) folder display pages one you've connected the device. Just open a file and scan through - you'll soon see what you need.

I've looked at all the ini and dat files which usually contain the settings but con not see anything that relates to the number of pois I could load into the system.
FWIW I also tested the PGPSW database on a excel spreadsheet and it appears the current release is 10063 locations with the turning off of swindow/Oxfordshire and now norfolk this could mean the file may fit sooner rather than later.

I have loaded on the Mobile and Spec cameras as a emergancy along side the Navigon camera database. untill I can get POIWarner or another way of getting them on the unit.

Hi peat - if you are still around, where have you been doing your tweaking (what (ini?)files, I mean). You mentioned quite a few settings that sound VERY useful - have you found they work as you expect/want?

peat & lads2000. I haven't connected my 70, but HAVE had a look at my backup file. Is THIS where it all happens Rolling Eyes ?
Quote:
C:\Documents and Settings\David\Application Data\NAVIGON Fresh\Backup\Backup_PR70_Live_full\storage_for_software\NAVIGON\Settings\ApplicationSettings.xml
It certainly contains (right near the end) User/My POI settings info

I don't know (I'm on XP) but I wouldn't be AT ALL surprised Confused The technical spec on the website for the 70 says

PC system requirements

Windows XP / Vista / Windows 7, CD-ROM drive, USB port and (micro)SD / MMC card reader (recommended), Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0
A Mac user hopefully can suggest a workaround (maybe a Mac synchronisation utility is needed between the device and the PC, or an MS simulation could be set up). Alternatively Navigon may be able to advise.

I guess you still have the Michelin files on your PC from your download - one thing you COULD try (BACK UP FIRST Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil so you can Restore) is to simply copy the files to the card, if it shows up as a drive, in the hope that copying is all Fresh does for these files anyway (obviously if there's any data processing done by Fresh it won't work - but I'd be surprised by that really).

Perhaps someone else using a MacBook can help. I can see the SD card on Finder but not in Fresh. I am using VM Fusion so can go to the Windows version of Fresh but there it will not see the Navigon as at one point I said always connect the Navigon to MacBook and I do not know how to change this.

I have managed to resolve it by connecting the Navigon to Windows. It sees both memories and can now download Michelin Guide. Will be taking for a run today.

Ok so took my first trip in anger this week. First impressions were..... not bad. A couple of differencies from the Tom Tom on the way there anyway. Traffic didn't apprear although I think it would have on the Tom Tom. Seemed to be a long enough jam to warrant the highlight although it was on the otherside of the road to the one I was on. So maybe these will only flag if on your side of the road will need to test further.

On the way back this was a bit more disturbing, the planned route took me on a very tight single track road and then through the centre of Swindon through rush our but again didn't show any traffic. I ended up going my own way and ignoring the directions it gave me.

The routes planned were marked as Optimal within the car profile and i took the my route option on both legs. I have now changed this to reflect the fastest route planning and see how this changes things. I also think the next couple of journeys I will take the Tom Tom as a back up just incase I feel the route is not to my liking again.

Concerning the POI limit of 10K. I asked Navigon if this is a space or software limitation, and could the ini file be adjusted. They say
Quote:
we can inform you that this is a software limitation and there is no option available in order to modify the number of POI entries that you can register, even though you have free space on your SD card.

They might be making it up of course, but I think I will play safe and believe them for the moment. Evil or Very Mad

No, Navigon is partnered with Inrix for the Live services, as described in their earlier press release -
Quote:
http://www.navigon.com/portal/int/uebernavigon/presse/artikel/NAVIGON_INRIX.html
Inrix quote TeleAtlas as one of their customers but I don't see Navteq mentioned. Off-hand I would think that Navteq are US-based at the moment providing equivalent services as Inrix does - their website says
Quote:
NAVTEQ Traffic- Delivering High-Quality Traffic to Europe
NAVTEQ Traffic is expanding its expertise to Europe, providing high-quality traffic solutions to meet European commuters’ needs. For more information about NAVTEQ Traffic in Europe or North America, please contact us.
Where they would presumably be a competitor of Inrix. If you are interested, Inrix's own website (www.inrix.com) might be worth a look.

I have just used my 70 live for 5 days in France and in general, I am very happy with it. Having used the 8310 for over a year I was not put off by the rather clunky menu structure. Also I charged it with my power cable from my 8310 so did not experience any slow charging speeds. It acquired satellites much faster and in general was accurate in forecasting traffic jams. It still provided some weird routing but I think this is a matter of experimenting and interpretation of the various route options. Negatives are only one male voice (why I do not understand), limited zoom capability ( which has resulted in inaccurate choice of roundabout exits), and the proximity sensor seems to react more to the steering wheel than my hands! I also had to use the Windows 7 on my Mac for Fresh to recognize the SD card. Overall I am happy with it.

I think it's advisable to steer clear of 'optimum' routing, unless you are specifically looking for a bit of a 'different' journey experience! I used to find it worked rather similarly on my ViaMichelin. Having said that, I think the MyRoutes does at least give a chance to look for a route more to your liking, especially if you are preplanning, although I think reviewing is a bit difficult on all satnavs with their small screen In fact, I've recently suggested to Navigon that they implement a PC-based route planner, say in Fresh, like you can with Satmap and some other makes. Don't know if anything will result.

I actually like the male voice - being fairly deaf, the lower frequency voice is much easier to hear clearly. It's very similar to Garmin's 'Daniel', which has always been my favourite. Anyway, there was essentially only one (female) on the 8310 as well, which I found much more difficult to understand. Of course, if you fancy a different accent, I suppose you could always switch to English (US)! I don't really object to Navigon selling pay-for 'Funny Voices' & 'Dialects' packages for those who really want them - they don't seem that exhorbitantly expensive.

Hi lads2000, when is the next trip planned for to compare the Navigon with the TT?

Their is another 'indepth', 'useful' review at http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-1314002/Review-TomTom-Start-sat-nav-featuring-Billy-Connolly.html
