Hope someone can help?

Whenever I have the option box "Combine subcategories into category file" I get WebPage unavailable? I have tried ticking the Show Link box but still no luck.

I've also tried it in both IE7 and Google Chrome but same thing.

This is TomTom OV2

Any ideas or tips?

There are 2 ways that might overcome this.

First there is a limit on how many SubCategories you can combine in OV2 format. Limit it to 20.

The other thing is, have you tried selecting the Show Link Button?

If it still refuses to work, download them individually and use POIEdit to combine them into one file.

I noticed this also not working recently too when downloading and combining categories whereas I have used it for several years with it working. Previously I have used the combine on ATM, Entertainment, Fuel, Pharmacy and Shopping-Supermarket all successfully. I have also previously downloaded combined in parts Accommodation and Car Dealership and used POIedit to combine.

In the meantime I can use POIedit as suggested but hopefully someone can confirm why this now appears to be a problem, perhaps it is the number of categories has now gone above 20 as mentioned earlier.

Can anyone confirm if their category combine download works?

Thanks

There have been additional fuel categories added to the list recently (in the last couple of months) which is why you can no longer download fuel as a combined category.

Does anyone have complete, idiot proof instructions for combining with POIEdit please? I managed it once after hours of messing about with different folders and duplicated files, but I don't know how I did it!

It's pretty simple, but POIEdit uses some slightly unusual terms...

I'm assuming you've already downloaded the various, separate POI files to your PC and saved them in a folder, lets say for example the folder is called C:\My Documents\POIDownloads (it can be whatever you like) and you've got three files called:
Shell.ov2
BP.ov2
Texaco.ov2

(The .ov2 file format is used by TomToms, but POI EDIT is just as happy working with other formats, such as .csv, used by Garmins)

1. Just run POIEdit, and select "Open" from the File menu.
Browse to your 'POIDownloads' folder and select one of the POI files (Shell.ov2 for example).

You should now see all the Shell stations listed on the right hand side

2. Now go back to the File menu, but this time select "Append" (not "Open")
In exactly the same way, select the next POI file (say BP.ov2)

You should now see all the BP stations have been added to the list on the right hand side.

3. Repeat the last step, using "Append" again to add all the other files you want to add, one by one.

4. Finally, select "Save as..." from the file menu, select the format in the bottom box (probably the same as you started with, i.e. .ov2 or .csv) and type in a name of your choice in the top box. Check where you want to save it in the top box (I'd put it in the same folder as the source files), then click on "Save"

That's it! All you have to do now is copy the combined file onto your sat nav in whatever way you normally do it.

Thanks Andy, I'll give it a go when I get home tonight.

Of course there is another way. (There always is).

Download the categories as a combined CSV File!

Open the File with PoiEdit, using the Navman Comma Seperated format. (You will get a warning the first time, asking if this is what you want to use, and the option to remember it).

Then save the file as an OV2.

It saves having to go through the Appending process. Wink

This is excellent! I now have two expert replies which make it appear far too easy.
Thank you both for this.
Would it be worth making this part of the thread a "Sticky" for all of the other hundreds of people that were too scared to ask?
