When I upgrade my TomTom maps on my 520 I seem to loose my favourites. What can I do to stop that? Also, I seem to have to reset my alerts to gatsos, etc.

You did make a back-up before you upgraded the maps, didn't you?

Look for the file mapsettings.cfg in your back-up and copy it to the map folder of the TomTom, overwriting the new one which has been created.

Thanks Daggers, Very Happy I did not know what the file name was likely to be. How come TomTom overwrite the file with updates? They must know what problems it could cause to users!

You might find the device won't boot up properly with an older MapSettings.cfg file in place, if it does boot up it might delete the old file and create a new (empty) one!
I don't use Favourites due to this unpredictable behaviour, instead I converted all mine in to a custom POI category and put that in the map folder. Added bonus is the fact you can have more than 48 locations, it is also possible to add telephone numbers to each individual location.

Have a look at This Thread for details on converting the MapSettings.cfg to a custom POI file - Mike

Just be aware that copying this file may or may not work. It has caused problems for some users. This file can change format and is not guaranteed to work with future application updates.

The best thing to do is not use favourites - use a personal POI category instead as this will stay. Have a look at this thread to see how to convert it.
