Sounds interesing, strumble.
I've searched Garmin.com, but can't find 'Atlantic Basemap' 31MB anywhere as a downloadable. Do you know where it is or is it deleted as the 3600 is discontinued?
Thanks

Hi Guys

Hope you can help me, I have downloaded a free .img file from the 'net and want to view it in MapSource. How do I do this? I have searched the forum but I can only find out how to load it directly to the GPS which I don't want to do yet.

Thanks - Nick

Hello again

Managed to answer my own question, after trawling the 'net found an excellent demo app. called IMG2MS. Not quite sure how it works as the guy who kindly wrote it is German and the FAQ is not in English but it does the job!

are these maps suitable for the C310 street pilot.. I too am heading out to France next week and begrudge paying an extra 90 quid for a week.

Currently i have the city select europe NT v7 which has limited French info....

thanks

Which maps are you talking about?

CitySelect Europe v7 has street level detail in France and is 10,000 times more useful than any basemap!

The only upgrade for you would be CityNavigator v8 or MetroGuide v8 but the difference in detail would hardly be worth the £40 just for France!

However, MetroGuide v8 is a 'good buy' at £40, for all europe on the unit and on the PC.

I dont know how much use this is. With a basic I3 or C3xx you should confirm you will already have Africa and middle east with any UK bought product.

Examining the GMAPBMAP there are 4 maps

WORLD probaly the global outlines on all Germin products.
AMR_WORLD, presumably Americas.
ATL_WORLD Atlantic world?
PAC_WORLD Pacific world.

All garmin GPS will probably have WORLD and one other depending on which region sold in.

Base US maps could be useful for UK folks going to the sates and vice versa.

Hi gcb
Can you explain how to 'examine' GMAPBMAP? I assume you are refering to the .img file Jamas has been talking about.
What software is used?
Sorry if this a daft question.

If you open the GMAPBMAP.IMG file jamas is talking about with Notepad you can see the 4 maps gcb has listed. Can't find these in the files on my i3 though?
