Thinknavi ipaq 4150 TomTom setup

Trying to get this combination working, I have gleaned from earlier threads that COM1 at 4800 is reqd (not 9600 as spec in the handbook)
Tom Tom has a list of gps types, I have tried NMEA0183v2 4800 and a few others, but none seem able to establish communication with the gps. In the status screen when I use a BT GPS the serial link is shown by an animated link, this doesnt happen with the thinknavi. What setting do I need ?

Also I notice that the powered cradle is not charging the ipaq, is this normal ?
Power is (5.2V) is being supplied and the GPS flip out part is getting warm so the cradle is powered up.
