Hi

Please can anyone tell me where I can get the 'Home' software for my TT700, as the software is compatible with my TT700, or will I need to wait for a version update from Tom Tom?

You will need to wait until v6 is publicly available for the existing GO devices.

Hi
There's a lot of people (myself include ) who are having real problems with the Planning section of the new Home software.

So hopefully by the time it's released for everyone they will have solved all the problems.

It does make you wonder that if they had shipped more units out to the guys here for Beta testing, then these problems might have been addressed already Sad

Steve,

we did point out these issues, but TomTom didn't take the time to fix them. They wanted to stick to their "April 06" release date no matter what. None of the beta testers is happy about that.

Does that mean that Tom Tom are shipping current units with software known to be faulty? Isn't there something in the sale of goods act that is supposed to stop that?

I wouldn't really worry about software bugs, once you’ve seen it you probably won’t use it. To my mind there is just no point to the software and I for one am very disappointed with it.

Essentially all it does is provide an alternative file manager utility for browsing your device. Oh and provide an ecommerce platform for TomTom so sell you PLUS services.

The planning feature is a joke. Once you’ve overcome the interface cock-up and managed to get the thing working, one finds that it does do nothing more than the unit does for itself. The only difference is that you control it with the mouse on the PC rather than with your finger on the screen.

I personally was hoping for much more and bought the unit on the strength of the PC software.

In my view the following are major oversights which could have been so easily dealt with in the home software

- POI management such as that provided by POI Edit
- Full screen facility for browsing and interacting with the map
- Improved facility to plan and re-organise itineraries*.

* Excuse me whilst I rant about this one. What is the point of TomTom targeting the commercial sector with fancy gizmos like traffic warnings, vehicle tracking, time keeping and instant messaging when the software provided doesn’t even give you half a chance of planning a multi-stop journey.

Havent had the pleasure of using this PC sw yet.

It should do more than you can on the device itself. But without any added functionality such as full screen mapping and better itinery management is seems to be no more than added fluff!

I was expecting more myself.

I ought to say that another really useful feature for the home software would have been the facility to re-organise the menus.

Many users have done this by creating a custom .mnu file but this was complicated for some and didn't allow for customising the navigation screens.

I don't have the programming skills myself but do hope that someone is able to come up with a solutution for some decent companion software.

Lutz. Is an SDK available yet?

yes, a beta SDK is available. It's not much different from the v5 SDK though.

Am I right in the following assumtions? -

When I use the Login button on TomTom Home, it then connects to the TomTom servers and checks if there is a newer version of the software. Last time I did this, I think it updated mine from App 6.000 to App 6.020 and in doing so, overwrote my data.chk file (which in my case is the spoken alerts for the PGPS camera POI database). This meant I had to re-install the file again. Crying or Very sad

Is this going to happen each time I login and are there any implications for other customised files that may be overwritten eg the PGPS Speed Camera POI database and customised splash screens, etc.
Confused

no, it doesn't automatically update your data.chk. Has not done that up to now (via HOME). Your device came pre-installed with 6.02, but the HOME 1.1 planner shows version 6.00.
The update you possibly download for the planner will be for the PC based version only.
In addition to that, when an app update is offered, then your customized data.chk is overwritten, if you choose to install that update.

It's a moot (mute) point anyhow - the new data.chk will be different from the old one, and thus we will have to produce a new version of our voices for that. Very rarely can youuse a new application with an older DATA.CHK file.

So if it overwrites - not a problem. Send us the new Data.chk and we'll compile a new voice version.
