I CANNOT SEEM TO FIND ANY POI ON THE DOWNLOAD FOR GARMIN SPEED CAMERAS, THAT RELATE TO THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND.IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL IF THEY COULD BE INCLUDED, AS NEW LEGISLATION HAS BEEN ENACTED SO THAT DRIVERS FROM THE UK, CAUGHT SPEEDING IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND, AND VICE VERSA, MUST PAY A FINE AND HAND OVER/ POST THEIR LICENCE TO THE DUBLIN/UK AUTHORITIES TO HAVE PENALTY POINTS ADDED. THIS LEGISLATION WAS SLIPPED THROUGH IN BOTH COUNTRIES, WITH NO KNOWN PRESS COVERAGE, AND WAS ONLY HEARD ABOUT BY MYSELF LAST WEEK WHEN I WAS FLASHED BY A SPEED CAMERA IN THE REPUBLIC OF IRELAND, AND DECIDED TO ASK THE LOCAL POLICE IN BELFAST. FOR ADVICE. BEFORE THE NEW LEGISLATION THE GARDA DIDN’T EVEN BOTHER TO SEND OUT SPEEDING TICKETS TO UK REGISTERED VEHICLES, AND EVEN IF YOU WERE STOPPED FOR SPEEDING THEY HAD NO POWERS TO ENDORSE YOUR LICENCE. THAT HAS ALL CHANGED NOW, SO I WAS WONDERING WHEN YOU WILL BE ABLE TO UPDATE THE SPEED CAMERA POI , TO INCLUDE SOUTHERN IRELAND. PS NEW SPECS CAMERAS WILL BE ROLLING OUT ACROSS NORTHERN IRELAND WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS ALONG WITH OTHER FIXED CAMERAS. THE 1ST SPECS WILL POSSIBLY BE SOMEWHERE IN THE NEWRY AREA. ON THE A1. THERE HAS BEEN PRESS COVERAGE ABOUT THIS, BUT THE PSNI WEBSITE DOES NOT SAY WHERE THE NEW CAMERAS WILL BE LOCATED.

We would all be grateful if you didn't shout. The Caps Lock key is on the left.;)
As to your point, it's possible that no-one has given any information for the cameras that are in Ireland. I can't speak for the Admin Team, but I'm sure that if information was forthcoming they would consider it. _________________ Richard

I can't see that this would be too much additional admin work. The speed camera locations would just tag onto the rest of the uk ones wouldn't they??
Verification may be slightly different problem though?? _________________ -------------------------------------------------------

There is no co-operation between police forces on speeding offences. They are looking to bring in a law which means if you are banned from driving it will apply to both jurisdictions.
The Specs system is up and running now from Border crossing on A1 through to Dromore?
Speeding in Eire is 2 points minimum, reach 12 and get a ban, not sure for how long. This was stated(difference in points system) as one of the reasons they couldn't use a crossborder system. |
