I may be taking a trip to France soon and i have been offered the use of a memory card from someones iCN510 which has maps of France loaded. Will this work with my iCN610, both the hardware uses SmartST V3? (i can't try it as the chap doesn't live locally and he will send the mem card through the mail if i wish to progress).

No it wouldn't and you would both be breaking the terms of the licence agreement anyway.
