tuckerpuc,
Try selecting Cities from the menu and then simply type in where you wish to go. It should take you to the central postcode . |

Thanks, but when I select custom points, it shows your POI entries in there (from the poi file you created). If I select Fuel, food etc. it says no matches found. Where should all the default petrol locations and hospitals be? |
hmm... they should be there... try getting in touch with garmin tech support. were teh pre-set poi's there before you uploaded the new ones?

Hello, think I was being thick! Once I chose an address I could see all petrol stations etc. in the vacinity. I was trying to look for petrol stations without first selecting an address! I have noticed though that I do get the speed camera warnings but I don't get the icon on screen showing me exactly where it is. I presume I should get this? It also warned me when I was going below the speed limit |

proper this time
i get this as well huk.. the warning that a camera is about should be enough to make you look around for it...if you concentrate at the i3 screen to much you might be aware of the speed you are doing.... |

You should get a warning of the speed camera, and then if you are above the set speed, then you can see the camera icon. If you drop below the speed limit, the icon disappears.
Of course, this is assuming you have uploaded the bitmaps of the camera when you uploaded the camera csv file. Must have exactly the same name, but .bmp
You can have different icons for redlight, gatso ,etc if that is how oyu pois are set up... |

The hardest thing is getting hold of a copy of City Select Europe v7
The first person to win the race to make their own workable Transflash card for the i3 let us all know
I probably won't use my i3 abroad but I love a challenge!
BTW my card is a 256 not a 128 as I earlier stated |
Well my CitySelect Europe CD has arrived - just waiting on the transflash card and reader. Fingers crossed they arrive on Saturday, then I can play with maps & report back before I go to Europe next week.
Presumably as well as downloading the maps, MapSource sends some identifying "stamp" to the new card so the i3 knows to recognise it. I hope so anyway, seeing that those who have tried copying their existing cards can't get the i3 to read them. |

it works! my new transflash card & reader (which i don't need for this, never mind) arrived this morning (thanks www.mymemory.co.uk) and I've just downloaded the CitySelect maps I need of North Italy for next week.
Will see how they actually work, but seem to have lots of pre-loaded PoIs, and I've found a few others to include as well.
Very relieved it worked - just have to see how it performs when actually abroad! |

on simulaton i think - can i try "for real mode" without actually being abroad?
what i mean by it working was that i could download maps to a new transflash card and the unit read it quite happily. both the airport and the hotel we're staying in are already included in the PoIs, so at least I should be able to get between those two okay! |

Good luck in Italy GG !
But back in Britain... has anyone found a way of removing all the other countries? So when you click "where to" and "address", you dont have to select England?
Seems a bit daft, especially if thats where you always are... |

Hi I am a new member.
I bought my i3 from pc world last tuesday for £199,after reading what everybody was saying about it here and for this price it's a great buy.
I had to buy a external antenna because of my windscreen which i bought from e-bay for £18-49 inc postage which arrived from america in 3 days where as on the garmin site it is about £70!
I have hard wired it to my car using a cigar extension lead, cutting off the plug and using snap cable connectors and hiding all the cables under the floor well, gives me a tidy look.
Have installed the camera data, will be trying out this later today, even though i have the micro road pilot on my dash which incidentally is a terrific little kit. |

So you've done all the above before trying the Garmin If you have then I have to say that you are pretty courageous to resist the temptation I am however sure that you'll be pleasently surprised. Let us know how you get on. |

I have just got back from round trip of about 45 miles going into middlesbrough and back home.
The navigation worked very well indeed but the camera data did seem a bit strange, it picked up one camera spot on as did the road pilot, but then gave me a couple of false alarms.
One warning was it kept flashing up about 30 mph speed when i was in a 40 mph zone doing about 35 mph which was strange, but all in all it is a fantastic piece of kit, very impressed. |
