gps powering down after 1 hour

I have an ipaq 3950 with a garmin 45 gps. All was working fine. Then my ipaq went faulty and the store changed it FOC. I then had to reinstall tomtom 2.

Now what seem to happen is that after about 1 hour the gps goes into power down and I have to switch it on again. The gps is ok when not connected to the com port of the ipaq. Are there any signals that can power down a gps? Thanks Clive
