If you have a 650 then all the maps are already on your device. Ireland in general is not particularly well covered though.

yes you are right the maps are there but not good at all. The coverage is only in the main citys and some of the main roads. i was just wondering if anyone know about a new update for it or has solved the problem with a different map for ireland

I am from Dublin and I ditched my NavMan iCN 630 after they switched to TeleAtlas Maps for Ireland.

I went for CoPilot 5 with Q2 2004 NavTeq maps which are brilliant compared to TeleAtlas's half-effort.

NavTeq maps will have the whole of Ireland 100% covered by the end of the year

HI Dublin is fine on the 650. most of the main roads are on the 650 too.
The problem is that only the bigger towns are covered and i would like to get a better map for it

You can't. Navman use TeleAtlas for their maps and only update them with each software upgrade.

So with V4 you will get more up to date maps but probably not for Ireland as TeleAtlas are IMHO about two years behing NavTeq.

The Eire maps are getting better with each release albeit slowly.
I don't believe that Navteq and TeleAtlas are that far apart as far as Southern Ireland is concerned at this moment in time. I made a comparison a while back which can be found here
Now in N Ireland Navteq wins hands down.

As you say though... the end of the year may change that.

Have to totally disagree.

The lists on the other thread are like listing 12 areas in the whole of England and then saying that is the coverage.

My Copilot 5 is extemely comprehensive with small roads in my wife's country town included.

And I just got a new Subaru car with December 2004 mapping with even more detail.

If I have to put a percentage on it I'd say Navteq have 70% of the island of Ireland mapped and from a brief view of Navman V3 I'd say TeleAtlas at best has 40%.

BTW, easy mistake to make but don't say Eire if you ever visit Ireland or you'll be laughed at: we stopped using that term in the 1950s!

Call it what you like. Other sites seem happy to use the term.

In the thread I linked to I stated coverage of 45%
Dont know why you have to shoot me down... just trying to be helpful.

Don't be so touchy - I disagreed with you, that's all.

Then I gave you some friendly advice so you wouldn't be embarrassed if you ever visited Ireland.

BTW look at the address for that tour company: Killarney, enough said Rolling Eyes

Sorry, perhaps I slightly over reacted in the heat of the moment.
TeleAtlas are poor with their coverage theres no denying it but they are slowly getting better.
I would much prefer Navman to switch back to NAVTEQ

Totally agree with you.

Navman switched for pure economic reasons.

But I always say that you can have the best designed GPS system ever but if the maps are second rate then why bother.

I can't speak for the UK but Navteq have been working very hard to cover Ireland over the last two years.

When I had V1 maps they were OK, V2 were a slight improvement but then I switched to CoPilot 5 and the jump was incredible for Ireland.

Now my car has NavTeq December 2004 maps and they are even better with amazing POIs that CoPilot can't touch.
