as far as I recall you have to say it wasn't you and report another driver (mandatory otherwise you are breaking the law) or go to court... there is no other option offered.

The maps may be free but you have use the service to download them - this is not free! and I'm guessing that maps will be frequently updated in the background to give the phone folk a nice little stre ...
