This could be due to the unit changing from one map to another .
When I first got mine it froze when it changed maps . an update on the firm ware and it was ok.

The antenna dont need to be mounted externally. Mine is in the rear window and works great .This is probably du to it not being treated or coated as was mentioned.

If you use an antenna you dont need to have the i3 stuck to the screen.

When I connect the i3 to my pc it does not show it on my computer as a device.
Mapsource finds it no problem and I can transfer maps no problem.
