After further investigation I've discovered this is a bug in automatic proxy detection in the .Net framework (1.1).

I'm looking at a possible fix, but this may break support for Windows 2000.

molchew - can you check your firewall settings? Try switching this off and trying to see if this is the issue (remember to turn it back on again!)
